"Hi Def" as The Register puts it.

Thought WB AMR would be more widespread by now. Where are the NZ operators on this?

"Currently available HD Voice enabled handsets include the Nokia 6720, E52, E72 and N8-00 and HTC Desire S. The Sony Ericsson Neo-Xperia will be launched next month with HD Voice and Telstra expects a large percentage of new devices to be launch with HD Voice support in the coming year"

Handsets, dear sir.

When Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) was launched by one2one in the UK, one handset supported it (and it was a rubbish one). They spent a shedload of money to launch an enhancement early, and it took 12 months for the devices to catchup.

It's chicken and egg. SOMEONE has to put it in, before the vendors will respond. Otherwise why build it?

Good on Telstra for doing it. I expect 2degrees will be capable of it, as will XT, but they won't rush. Voda? don't know.

Now - when the INTERCONNECTS between them also support passing the audio stream untampered with... that would be good. Which means Telecom, TelstraClear and all the little voip providers will need to up the game with their Interconnects....

Yes... that is a shame. I can think of few things that'd make me use the phone more than improved audio. Makes such a difference.
