Does anyone know if Telecom will bring out an ExpressCard EVDO modem, for use in newer PC & Mac laptops?

Yes they are but not sure of the time frame

USB modems are also on the way for EV-DO and WCDMA/HSDPA

I would like to get the USB version of UMTS/HSDPA for use with UMPC/UX. not that I have the latter two devices yet but at least i would have the peace of mind knowing I have a path for the gadgets i want to get.

Internet is my backyard...

Hmmm I was looking at them. But a laptop with embedded EVDO would suit me better. I wonder how long before we see them in shops

Re the embedded devices, great in theory but like the PCMCIA cards at present the shrowding of the Laptop can effect the RF performance.

Obviously handy to have built in but i prefer being able to use data any where i have network coverage, not just where the embedded device or PCMCIA card has coverage.

The Minimax works really well and similar to my handset for coverage.

The Sierra wireless with the external antenna goes well also, with out is limited coverage. As long as you don;t move around it works sweet with the antenna!

USB is probably more suitable and enables use in other devices such as desktops, Mac's etc.

I have found the performance of the embedded laptops to be very good. They use a paddle antenna that is mounted behind the screen.

I do understand what you are saying though.
