Using telecom's TAP interface to telecom Pagers, I am able to send to an 025 by putting 5300 infront of the cell number.
in fact whenever I turn on the 025 phone it displays 5300 + phone number briefly so I believe that this might be the real, full number of that phone.

how do i do the same for an 027?
is there a number that needs to be prepended to the phonenumber??
I've tried 5300 and 5301.

Another possibility is that the TAP interface I am dialling into is for the 025 (eg Ericsson) switch only, and does not have access to the 027 (Lucent) switch.

anyone know anything?

Taniwha, are you doing this for a project? Do you have this access for trial or production?

it's the same dialup TAP we use for Paging for many many years.
in recent years the client used a few d-amps 025s

anyways, we'd like to use the same interface to send to 027s, but haven't been able to get much info out of telecom.

The 5300 number you are using for the 025 phone is its MIN - Mobile Identification Number. Each handset has a MDN (dial number) and corresponding MIN. The MIN forms the basis of the IMSI (similar to GSM) for international siganlling between networks.

025 numbers use a mixture of MIN prefixes: 5300, 5301 and 1730 depending on the range.

All 027 numbers us the MIN prefix 173.

For the 027 phone use 173+ last 7digits of 027 number. ...this should work fine. (the 025 & 027 networks use the same SMSC)

Cheers

i noticed that "My Number" setting in one of the 027s was in that form (173+number)
so, i tried that yesterday and go the error message: "invalid pager ID, wrong service or incorrect message length"

i then sent the same message to 5300+<025 number>, and it worked. so i came to the conclusion that the 173 form is an invalid pager number

We just tried again, with the same result.

i've just heard from someone at telecom, that you need to have Mobile Note enabled on the 027.

can anyone confirm this?

Mobile note is where you have a human answer your phone instead of voicemail, and they sms the message to you.

No not Mobile Note

You have to have MobileNote Direct - which allows automated messaging to the mobile (no human involvement) - active on the phone

The format 173 is correct but the recipient has to have MobileNote Direct provisioned.

i'll need to get that arranged for every 027 we want to send to.
what a hassle! looks like it will be easier to keep passing around the pagers, and not upgrade to 027.

thanks anyways Bunty.

that's a little harder to automate
I was hoping to use it on many existing systems that currently use TAP.

Taniwha, how hard is to arrange with TNZ to setup the Mobile Note Direct in all the 027 you need? You'll probably just have to pass on a list to an account manager and this can be sorted.

I'm sure TNZ would like it and even try to help if you have a number of numbers to provision, since the push away from 025 and 026 networks into their 027 is a sure thing.

i'm working through it. -> but it's the client's call.
(used to work there, now contracting).

the problem is not the initial setup, but the ongoing maintenance of needing to change an obscure account setting everytime we want to add someone else to the paging pool.

but, like your say, we probably won't have a choice sometime soon.

This is quite easy - have done it several times.

Each mobile 025 or 027 needs Mobile Note Direct requested (Tell telecom *123 to add spotcode YDEMF to each number). There is no cost for this service & no monthly fee applies.
Txt message cost of 20c to the receiving number - that's why u have to request it

Send message to 027xxxxxxx number - dont use 530 or 173 prefix.

Works sweet.

Just a slightly off topic question but does anybody know if the 025/027->026 TXT gateway is an officially supported product or a trial of some sort? You can txt a message and send it to an 026 pager however several people I've spoken to know nothing about this. Is it something likely to stay or disappear overnight?
