Hi,

Wanting to buy some sort of gadget for our daughter for Christmas - basically an 8GB iPod touch, or possibly a $200ish Android phone or 2nd hand iphone 3gs.  Bit hesitant about getting a smartphone for a ten year old , - these are the requirements..

Metronome app for guitar (save buying a separate metronome)

Learning French app (save buying CDs/software for shared home computer)

Music playing is pretty ubiquitous so that's not a problem

To have phone functionality is not that important, but probably a bonus.

Would ipod touch be the best option here?  I don't know much about apps for either android or iOS..

Thanks for any pointers

Probably a good phone for her would be an LG P500. If you get one through 2degrees, then I would also put her on the $19 a month plan, with 2500 texts and 30 mins of calls. That way if she needs to, she can contact you quite easily.

Thanks, that's great.

Will get that one at the $189 warehouse offer, then get the metronome app, guitar tuner and 'French in a month'.

Cheers

The current (until dec 20th mailer) shows the p500 with the 'christmassive' top up pack:

The online store has the p500 with a navigation kit, car charger, wall charger for the same price.

Not clear to me if the online store item with the navigation kit comes with 'christmassive'.
