Hey people,

Since telecom's been pimping their latest MMS fone so hard lately I've seriously considered getting one, as IMO most of Telecom's fones prior to that have been rats. So I was just wondering if anyone's bought a tx95c and can give a little rundown? pros/cons etc?

thanks in advance :)

But this single worded definition does not give reasons - and most importantly doesn't answer the question.

You don't like it. Is it because of picture quality, the menus configuration, integration with other networks? It must be something you thinkg about these items. Can you expand?

I purchased one after christmas. It is an awesome phone. Really user friendly menus, camera quality much better than Voda's PXT phones. My brother has a Voda Sharp GX10I and picture wise the TX95C is far better. Flash is available from TNZ stores. Sending pictures between Voda and Telecom is being negotiated as we speak.

CityBoy - it sounds almost like you WORK for Telecom, I mean, are they paying you to say that stuff?!? It's still frustrating not being able to send pictures to any other phone other than the TX-95C. Are they going to be able to send to other Telecom picture capable phones if and when those models come out? How is the coverage? Is it better than the rest of the 027 network? Or are Telecom still working on those two areas?

it's a good phone
it's small, and it has a lot of features. voice audio quality is excellent. reception also very good.
It's clamshells (i like clamshells).

The new nokia cdmas do better for usability, but the tx95c ain't too bad compared the horrendous software on previous hyundai phones. The screen transitions while navigating the menus get a bit annoying after a while.

sending sms/mm/email is a bit of a chore. takes too many steps, so requires your full attention (ie don't send sms while walking down lambton quay at 5:10pm)

if you're only interested in it for the camera and MMS, then i'd recommend you wait another 2 months. (or go gsm)

but, if you want it today, it's an above average cdma phone, and priced better than equiv gsms.

amen to all of the above

txting is a complete bitch, the number of blank txts i've sent.. :@ but you get used to it

that's the ONLY complaint, menus are good, and if you hold down the 'clear' button in txts it doesnt delete the whole msg!!!

wicked fone. and only 600 bucks :)

Well actually "Realism" I do work for Telecom, but I have been a staunch Vodofone customer, that is until the TX95C was released. I don't work for commission, so what I say is what I either know or personally feel.
1. Coverage Issues - 027 is continually inproving coverage, if you live in an area which has a dead zone, simply call *123 from your mobile and ask them to enter the location details into "tooltime" which is then sent to the department which handles the network expansion. We currently have the best coverage in the major centres and now are working on the rest of NZ, within 18 months the 027 will be far superior to any other network in NZ.
2. The technology is in place for MMS and PXTing between networks already, it's actually Vodafone which is delaying an agreement to enable this to take place, the same way they did when Telecom introduced texting, and the same thing they are currently doing now with the Telecom etext service.
3. You will be able to send MMS images to other Telecom MMS capable phones. The Nokia 3105 can receive MMS, but not take or send them.
4. We will be releasing a Nokia camera phone within the next month, then a Sanyo camera phone about a month after that. All can send MMS between each other.
http://www.sanyo.com/wireless/handsets/scp-8100.htm
5. The easiest way to send a text is to;
Select phonebook > find name of person you want to text or email > press menu > press send message > type text.
6. You can now download free polyphonic standard ringtones - as in "ring ring" or old style rings for the phone. Download these through your WAP browser.

Last time I checked the PTC status of the above handsets, the Sanyo 8100 was due out in March and the Nokia 6225 was due out in April. Either way, I hope they don't rush them to market as they both look like they will be pretty desirable handsets as long as there are no software cock-ups.

It's a bit harsh blaming Vodafone for delays agreeing on an interconnection agreement City boy, look at the following extracts from the existing SMS interconnect to realise why Vodafone firstly stopped the etxt service. The etxt service was in breach of the contract.

(vii) is suspected of using the mobile phone or handset that sends Text Messages
other than as a personal mobile device, including by operating that mobile phone
or handset as, or connecting it to, a computer server for the purposes of sending
Text Messages;

6.2 Handing over of Text Messages
The Originating Party:
(a) shall not use, directly or indirectly, the Internet in transmitting or handing over a Text
Message to the Terminating Party; and
(b) shall hand over all Text Messages directly over the Signalling Link to the Terminating
Party.

City NZ guy

No mobile network in NZ can claim they have more coverage, Both networks have coverage where the other does not. Vodafone has more coverage on a global scale so your comments are incorrect also Telecom is not the only network rolling out more coveage you don't think vodafone is going to sit around and do nothing cause thats what it sounds like. I would suggest you research your facts more. and if you would like facts here are some. some CDMA networks in the US and Canada are being closed down to overlay them with GSM 850/1900 those facts are NOT from vodafone but NOKIA.com in there press releases as they are the ones doing the work. Also CDMA growth is so so slow, over %80 of new mobile connections are GSM facts from (www.gsmworld.com) amd also (nokia.com) and the other 18% is split across other platfroms such as CDMA and FOMA, also I was part of the meeting when we pulled the texting to telecom, so that comment from you is %100 wrong

cityboy_nz ->what do you think of the sanyo?

i found the plastic on the screens very soft, and it's horribly scratched very quickly.
the camera resolution is greater than any sharp gsms phones, and that outside screen could come in handy, if only for doing my hair :-)

The OS does the job, but it still doesn't compare to nokia.

Please tell us which "big CDMA networks in the US and Canada" are being closed down and overlayed with GSM?

skyplonk, why don't you visit the nokia.com website and read about it from the horses mouth. Its better than me giving you the info but the info is under press releases.

Cheers

Im sure nokia would not make up stories like that

It is also worth noting that AT&T migrated from TDMA to GSM, rather than going down the more natural CDMA path.

Wasn't there also a phone provider in Singapore which ditched CDMA in favour of GSM, and another CDMA provider in the Phillipines which went bust?
