I have seen the thread about audio issues on one tuner. The thread is locked and I thought I would start a new one.

I have 2 TiVos, an original day one NZ TiVo (i.e. when they were first released) and a more recent NZ one (which hasn't had a problem).

1) Sometimes when I start the TV (always TV One) there is no sound and I switch to (say) 2 and then back to One.

2) Sometimes the sound has not been recorded. It may happen once every 2 weeks or so (and typically on an afternoon programme).
However, I have found that a program that is currently being recorded has no sound from the start, but when I go to Live TV there is sound. Pressing rewind and I find that the sound does cut out at some point.

If anything I would say I get a very good TV strength signal.

Very annoying.

I have an audio ??? regarding volume.... Am I correct in saying the volume on the TiVo unit itself is not adjustable? I have mine connected via HDMI to a desk top monitor. this is fine for the likes of a Zinwell 620HD as my previous unit. But now I have TiVo connected to the monitor, I can’t adjust the volume without connecting the audio to a 3rd remote controllable audio device. Which isn’t really what I want.... Has anyone come across this & worked around it, without getting too elaborate?

My wife commented that the dual-tuner same channel overlap audio cutout issue does not seem to occur any more. She no longer manually adjusts the start and stop times of programs so that they don't overlap (due to padding). Has this been fixed in an update?

I had this sound loss fault occur some time after I had replaced my Hard drive for a larger one with an extra 1TB partition.
I finally gave up and put the original drive back, and it came right.

Later the fault re-occurred once. I did a restart and it cleared the fault. It hasn't occurred again since.

You can toggle (swap) tuners by pressing the "Live TV" button. If the fault only occurs on one tuner and only on TV1 then select the OK tuner, then press Live TV and use ch up/down button to select any other channel that you wish to watch or record. That is how I used to work around it.
Of course if you have consecutive recordings on TV 1 with normal overlap settings then a tuner change will be forced by Tivo and you'll lose sound on the second recording.

Just to let everyone know.
Don contacted me (and has been very helpful) and I now have an Enquiry ID from TiVo (AUS).
I have some details to record when (and if) it happens again.
Will keep you informed.

I had a re-occurrence of this fault this evening. Here are the circumstances.

I had recorded the 6pm News on TV1, and was watching a replay of it. Meanwhile my scheduled recording of the following programme, Country Calendar on TV1 had started at its scheduled 7 pm time.
At the end of the 6pm News I watched the beginning of Country Calendar which ran for 20sec or so and then went mute at about the time the recording of Country Calendar would have started on the second tuner, for the overlap period. The first recording remained mute until the end of it's file.
I started a replay of the second recording and it's audio was fine - the programme was about half way through.

I switched to "Live TV" and the programme was continuing with sound.
I pressed "Live TV" again to change tuners. The programme was running there too, but was mute. I used the channel up button and changed up and the audio started on TV2 (the same mux as TV1). Another channel Up to TV3 and the sound was OK there too (different mux).
After that, switching back to TV1 would just take me back to the other tuner where TV1 was being recorded from with the OK audio, so I couldn't duplicate the problem.
For the record I just checked the internal temperature which was showing a normal 30?C.

I hope this helps with any analysis.

I have the same issue with no sound on one tuner. Seems to only happen on recording although I never watch live tv. Happens for me on both TV1 and TV3.

Pretty over it right now. Does anyone know if I can return it to bond and bond for a replacement or do I have to go through Hybrid?

Hi geekiegeek,

To answer your first question, Support goes via Telecom NZ and then onto us.

Of course we would much rather we get your audio issues resolved instead of you returning the box.
If you haven't already, please contact Telecom support, and we can go from there.

Sorry I should have clarified (and possibly had more coffee before posting)

Your first port of call for support is Telecom, for support, returns or replacement, Telecom can advise you of the process from there (be it fault finding, a replacement unit, or whatever).

I am not fully across the retail agreements (my job is primarily technical not sales related), Telecom NZ can answer those questions.

I think Dan is incorrect. If you think your unit is faulty return it to the retailer from whom you purchased it for repair, refund or replacement. Many people have posted in this forums to say that the retailer (B&B, NL or HN) simply swapped the faulty unit.
EDIT, just reread Dan's post. For support before returning the unit, go via Telecom. Still seems weird.

My sister just took in my parents' 6 month old TiVo to Bond&Bond (Dunedin) as it had Grey Screen of Death. She was told that it is a discontinued product and there are none in the country, so rather than swap it they would have to send it away for 'repair'. They did not give a time frame.

I will be interested to hear what Bond&Bond say if you take yours in.

This sounds exactly like the fault we used to get, but haven't recently. The audio on the first program would mute when the overlapping recording on the same channel started.

I was thinking about that too, until I worked out how much it would cost. Someone(s) on Geekzone has a media server with all the tuners (Sat and UHF) in it in a cupboard, and only a thin headend (Apple TV I think) at their TV. Pretty cool and versatile, but way to expensive for me. But thats another thread (well several actually).

TiVo is pretty awesome in terms of recording/playback intelligence (bugs aside). And very high WAF (bugs aside).

An update

Perhaps this is common knowledge, I don't know.
Anyway, I now have 2 recordings that have no sound and 1 recording with sound after the first 4-5 minutes.

What is very interesting is that when all 3 recordings are uploaded to a PC (Vista), they all have sound via Windows Media Player.

I have now uploaded 2 of the 3 recordings for Hybrid's use.

I have had other audio issues and Hybrid have switched on logging.
They have seen some logs which go the the USA for analysis.

My personal observations are that issues (may) occur when 2 recordings overlap on the same channel e.g TV1 (NZ). Certainly, it is a random occurrance (for me).
