Got the letter from Spark today , no more unmetered broadband (VDSL in our case ) from July 01 , 2015

No! Don't stand for it, take it to Fair Go. It is so unreasonable of Spark to end their unmetered data, that was only ever a bonus and they have every right to bring to an end.

I hope BigPipe don't get tempted (or are told to by Spark mgmt...). Quite like the peace of mind with unmetered, and I know my usage isnt much beyond 200gb

It's only the unmetering for TiVo customers (they were never supposed to get fully unmetered internet anyway just the TiVo data).

They aren't removing all unlimited plans (AFAIK)

Precisely... This was only ever for the ones who are on the Tivo plan with Spark who have been getting unlimited interwebs no matter what plan they are on. Now those folks will just need to move to the Unlimited plan.

it is a shame you can't login to your "my spark " and see your actual usage while on the unlimited plan

I am not complaining about this unmetered finishing , I was only stating that it is

Yeah, this is a bit of a kicker for us. While their website states that we can move to an Unlimited plan for no extra cost, the reality is that isn't quite true. Doing so would lose our free static IP, so we're actually looking at a $15 per month increase to move to Unlimited.

The letter also states we're exceeding our 150GB allowance, but doesn't state by how much. And because we've been unmetered, I have no idea how much we're exceeding it by. Got the Spark Social Media team looking into it though. Hopefully they'll be able to dig up some usage figures for me so I can make an informed decision.

The letter is a bit vague in its working , but the way i read it , all data you use counts towards your plans usage

I would be interested to know this as well, I have 3 of them. I presume that data is still unmetered and they have worked out a way to now separate it. The TiVo website does still state

If you are a Telecom Broadband customer, your downloads for the daily EPG updates and the occasional TiVo software update will not impact your monthly download quota. Unmetered content available to TiVo media devices includes TiVo games, software updates and electronic program guide data.

Even if it isn't, the good news is that it amounts to virtually nothing in the way of data. - EPG is just a few MB to update. Back when caps were 1-2GB that might have made a difference, but the smallest cap now is 40GB, so it would just be lost in the rounding.

the only thing that might have used meaningful amounts of data before was CASPA (the movie rental service), but that is now defunct (replaced with Quickflix, which presumably isn't covered by the original unmetering deal since it didn't exist back then)

That is true. Although I don't know how much data the Tivo apps and games it use though, as there is no mention of that. They seem to load it all on the fly and takes a while to load. So I suspect they would use quite a bit of data each time they load up.
