ahmad: Why would you put stuff onto the TiVo from PC and that "direction" still required the Media Access Key doesn't it? Or is the MAK only for TiVo to PC?
So it can be used as a media player for TV shows etc that have been downloaded from the internet or for rips of DVDs that have ben converted to Divx/Xvid rather than watch on the PC.
Well that is your experience not mine, so try not to call me a liar. I have found crap in, crap out. As I have said 720p files are excellent. While all others are watchable some are worst than others, it all depends on the original encoding. If I play them on my pc I can notice a difference between files so of course there is a difference through the Tivo. Also I do use pytivo not the tivo desktop software to do the transcoding. Not sure what you use. I don't have a ps3 so can't compare that.
As for disk usage you need kmmtg for that.

From memory I just ran the wmcbrine rc1 and then upgrade that install to the latest release. I then made sure I had the latest version of tivodecode from the kmmtg site and rdian 1.01 ffmpeg. My transfers are defiantely HD and look good. What file types are you transferring? Mine are mainly MKV and are about 1.1GB for a 45 minute show, 6 - 8GB for a movie.
wallop: Do the ps3 and tivo use different HDMI cables/connections?
The PS3 and the TiVO have the same brand HDMI cables and go into a 3 way HDMI splitter to the same socket on the TVs external media box. 720p & 1080i HD content recorded on the TiVo looks fine so there isn't a connector issue between the TiVo and the TV.
The file played on the TiVo was a 720p mkv transferred to the TiVo via the PYtivo connection to the now playing list, the PS3 version was the same 720P Mkv file converted to mpeg using mkv2vob which if you aren't familiar with it is a small program that quickly converts mkv files to an mpeg file of the same or similar size and identical quality as the original mkv [Needed as the PS3 doesn't naturally handle mkv files] The resulting mpeg is indistinguishable from the source mkv.
It is possible I have an outdated version of Pytivo as I had a hell of a job getting python and pytivo versions that were compatible. Python 2.5 if I remember rightly but not sure of the Pytivo version. I am pretty sure I had to find an older version now I think about it. DLS

Does mkv2vob create an .mp4 file? If so, try pushing it from pytivo to your tivo (using the http interface on your pc, not the Tivo menu on the TV). That way it should just copy over without needing transcoding. (or try using mkv2tivomp4 mentioned above to create a mp4 file if the mkv2vob file is not compatible).

No not an mp4, it is an mpeg as you would find in a VOB file on a DVD. They are larger higher quality files than mp4.
I am not familiar with the Http interface. How is this accessed?

The mkv2tivomp4 process simply copies the H264 video from the mkv file into a mp4 container, so this will be higher quality than the mpeg files you are generating. It will be interesting to see if you agree :-)

I think to see the "Push from video shares" option, you need to set the following options within "Web Configuration" -> "Global Server Settings"

it is really annoying and you end up debating with them and when i showed them the herald article re tivo's drop prices, the telecom guy then said, "ahhh, yes yes if you are a telecom bb customer!" well, that was what i've been telling them!
sorry for the rant. just annoyed at sales people who don't know what they're selling...

Same here they only asked for my ID and phone number. Spent so damn long filling out paper work as the rep typed like a grandma. But it was worth the wait saving that much money
Does anyone know why they aren't advertising them openly at $360 for telecom customers? All the recent ads I have seen for them are for $499, and I am sure there would be a lot of telecom customers who would buy them for $360 if they knew. If I hadn't seen this post, I would never have known.
