Just called the Noel Leeming Outlet Centre in Otahuhu and they have them but not out for sale yet - they have to test them first...hmm... Not sure what to think about that! Do they turn them in, see the Tivo logo, yep that's a winner put it in the good pile or do they actually have some sort of test suite they can run the box through??

Wouldn't surprise me if these are refurbed DOA units. As before, I'd like to know who fixed them and what did they do to fix them. Point being, if it's something really easy then a cheap unit would be fine. If it's something dodge, like RAM chips not holding the firmware etc, then it might be more terminal. Either way, it's worth a $99 punt!

If anyone does get one of these, please post a message here so that others (i.e. me) can know when (and perhaps where) to get them as well.

Just bought 2 from the clearnance centre. Apparently most of them suffered from software corrupution or remote problems.

BuzzLightyear: I guess for $99 I could by 2 units. Apparently they are all being tested so should hopefully not have any DOA. I am curious to see what happens if they die though given there is no stock in NZ. I wonder if there is a repair agent or unofficial repair outfit.

They may try and get out of it  by saying it was advertised as a second hand product and so could not be expected to last long, so it would probably depend how long it lasts. Less than a year you could probably claim under CGA, but doubt much longer than that.

However practically speaking I suspect that HN, NL whoeever would just refund the $99 and be done with you. No point fighting over it, and no point repairing either at that price.

Perhaps it wasn't a refurbed one?

Well I've got two in the boot of my car right now for a grand total of $198.
