Not sure why it is not "openly" advertised in-store but I received the offer with my September phone bill. To be honest though I wouldn't have just ignored it had I not read about this offer on Geekzone.

robbyp: Does anyone know why they aren't advertising them openly at $360 for telecom customers? All the recent ads I have seen for them are for $499, and I am sure there would be a lot of telecom customers who would buy them for $360 if they knew. If I hadn't seen this post, I would never have known.

my point exactly.. it seems that if you they can get you to pay $499, they wouldn't bother saying that it is $360.  when i went to that jville telecom store, i said that i was a telecom customer, BB and landline, and i'm interested in getting a tivo.  the guy over there, told me it is $499 and i asked him again regarding $360 offer for telecom customers and he still said no.  he really looked clueless and sort of annoyed.  he only believed me when i  showed him the herald article (with the tivo price of $360) and told him this site...  telecom should do a better job at educating their sales persons...

That is strange because my local telecom store knew all about it. I just said to him as I entered the store, I beleive you have currently got a special on the tivo for $360, and he knew all about it. Another customer in the store was also going to get one after he saw me get mine for $360, but it wasn't advertised in store anywhere. Marketing 101, have a sign in store advertising your specials telecom. Becuase I took my telecom bill in with me, I didn't have much paper work, so anyone buying one should bring their telecom bill with them.

Even easier, I called called 0800 MY TIVO  on a Sunday afternoon, spent around 5 minutes on the line, and my new TIVO arrived at the door, freight free by lunchtime Monday. They knew all about the $360 offer. Too easy.

Yep....mine turned up the following month, and I am totally confused.  I took it on the premise that it would just be $10 per month but then when the bill turned up they wanted me to pay all the GST ($54 @ 15%) up front, and then $10 per month thereafter..HUH?

I couldn't get through to them that this would mean I would be paying more than $360, and it wasn't what I agreed to (since when do HP's make you pay the GST up front..kinda defeats the purpose) but they assured me the future payments would be less to compensate.  I think it had something to do with the GST increase that mucked everything up.

Got through to their specialist second level accounts people and they had some weird accounting explanation about how it was charged (I even think they were confused) but again they assured me I would end up paying no more than the $360

I have paid it as I had the money at the time, but will be keeping a close eye on the future bills to make sure I don't get overcharged.

So after that small rant...the point of my story is to have a carefull look at your account when it does come through.

I think phase 3 is flawed...I believe $360 is less than cost price

No, the above implies that you don't get billed for said TiVo.

BTW did you talk to New Zealand or Manila? I hate overseas call centres because they have no concept of some very important concepts such as GST and CGA or FTA.

I once spoke to an HSBC call centre in Malta I think it was - they couldn't answer a question about my IRD number. IRD? What is a IRD?

Spoke with a true-blue Kiwi!  Nice lady, very knowledgeable about accounting and billing, but I think in the end she was just as confused as me as to why the 'company' had chosen to account and charge the sale as they have.

All I am suggesting is that if you brought a TiVo around the time of the GST change then make sure you are paying the correct amount.
