old3eyes: So what happens now after these refurbished TiVos die in sat 6 ~ 12 months. What recall under the CGA and if none who can you get to fix them??

+1 I'd like to know what the deal is with this too.  I mean how can they sell something with a tiny warranty anyway?  Surely fundamentally it's either fit for purpose or not?

richms: Ah well, looks like its another week till I can get one anyway so they will prob all be gone by the time I get around to going out there. Did they give any hints as to if there are still more again to come out?

I got the impression this is the last of the last now.

BuzzLightyear: An update on the two units I purchase on Monday. First one works like a dream. Second one lasted one night then grey screened/rebooted. Looks like dodgy HDD. I took it back to the clearance centre and swapped for another one today.

I notice its the same gear that was there Monday but they increased the price to $129. Still about 10ish left. Was about 60 on Monday.

Which store (part of Auck) have you been visiting?

Only the Mt Wellington Clearance Centre has them.

Must have been a few Friday quality runs in Mexico in late 2009 or whenever these were produced.  Judging by the number being DOA I'd expect there'd be a few more to come.

I'm surprised nobody knows what's specifically failing yet.  At the clearance price they're cheaper than a new hard drive alone, which is crazy good value really.

When I asked the guy testing them on Monday he said most of the problems were actually software corruption and faulty remotes. However just from info available online faulty HDD and power supplies seem quite common.

When I asked about this the deal was you throw them away or deal with Hybrid TV in Oz to repair / replace. Only 3 month Noel Leeming Warranty and thats it. I'm okay with that at $99. Generally they tend to be DOA or work okay. I did ask if there is anyone locally that repairs Tivo units and they said it was possible (don't know if this was fact or just a wild guess).

They must be still trickling out of the workshop. There were close to 20 there this evening. (-1)

For anyone still interested in a $129 TiVo, NL were out of stock this afternoon (Thursday) but salesman says more will be coming in again soon.
