As an extra thing to check in the mean time, have a look here
http://support.mytivo.co.nz/index.php?action=artikel&cat=30&id=55&artlang=en

In particular the "Check for infrared interference" part. I'm just curious as the remote is still lighting up (that doesn't preclude a remote failure) It's worth double checking before getting a new remote sorted.

Cheers
Dan

I checked for interference from CFL, sun light, other remotes during the troubleshooting but thanks for the suggestion.

It wouldn't have any as this is not used anywhere near drinks. AsI said it looks like out of the box.

Mauricio, does it still control your TV (volume, mute, input, aspect ration)?

Sorry, didn't see this reply before. No, it never could anyway (not sure why, entered the Sony codes many times but never worked with my Bravia).

The Android app worked fine, but because we wanted something more immediate, the HTPC was the solution really (once Dell replaced the motherboard, after the HDD died).

Calling support this week to order a new TiVo remote.

The HTPC story... HDD on HTPC died the day after the TiVo remote died. I swapped it with a spare HDD I had here but then an old fault with the motherboard reappeared, and after calling Dell they sent a technician next day to replace the motherboard. To Dell's credit, they did the replacement for free, even though the Dell Zino we use was three years old and the model is out of market for at least 18 months.

I presume you have also tried cycling through all the codes?

I'm amazed a technician actually came to your house to repair your computer. I guess there isn't exactly a store to return it to.

Some Dell repairs are just parts replacement and they do it on site. Same for HP.

Well, after almost six months I finally got around ordering a replacement remote control. It took this long because Sky sent us an Igloo box (which we used only a handful of times really) and our Media Centre PC is really where all the action is (including TV recording, etc).

Ordered the remote control from TiVo Australia as instructed. Delivery was somewhat slow - I ordered the latest of many Amazon Kindles directly from Amazon on a Sunday and it arrived here on Wednesday. The TiVo remote control on the other hand took about twenty days from order to delivery, and that's coming from Sydney.

Anyway, inserted batteries, all working fine, so it really was the old remote control giving up. Interesting the keys on the new one are "soft" compared with the old one which had required a harder press.
