Just noticed today some keys are not working in our TiVo remote control. It's not like a heavy use appliance around here, seeing most of movies and TV are watched in our Media Center.

Buttons like Live TV, Guide, Channel Up, Channel Down will light the LED but the TiVo won't respond to those.

I tried removing the batteries for 30 minutes, new batteries, a total remote control reset (TV Power + Tivo button, followed bu three Thumbs Down and Enter), powered down the Tivo itself for 30 minutes, removed the Media Center control from the room, etc.

So that to me says I pretty much need a new remote control - unless someone else can give me some other ideas?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

That happened to me once and I had to go and assign the remote to the Tivo.  Somehow the Tivo end with with a different code for which remote was controlling it.

My remote suffered similar failure on my 18 month old Tivo. rang 0800mytivo as per Geekzone member suggestion and telecom not only sent a new remote, they sent a new Tivo as well just in case the Tivo was at fault.  great service indeed. Turned out that it was only the remote but you certainly can't fault that for service.

Do you have a harmony remote with a tivo profile loaded on. That way you can check to see if it is the remote or the tivo. But I think it is more likely to be the remote.

No, I don't have another remote - except for the Media Center one, but thanks for the suggestion.

I second the seggustion of remote ID set incorrectly. The switch isn't the wrong position is it? Although the default is for both positions to be ID 0.

Contact Telecom support, should be able to sort a new remote for you.

In the mean time, you can always turn on network remote functionality and use a 'peanut' app on a driod or iPhone too keep yourself out of trouble in the mean time

Why bother wasting your valuable battery juice on a very poor working app(i know as having used it)when you can just buy a new remote for 25 bucks? As for telcom I couldn't get a new remote off them as quote "we no longer sell or have anything to do with TIVO anymore!we could try and get one from australia for you but could be two weeks or more!having to have the phone connected to your home wifi is hard to justify plus it sucks the battery dry in no time.

Yeah, I know that it's a pig on the battery, but as a stop gap measure until you get a new remote it works just fine.

It is a spare phone I have so I don't mind using it as a temporary measure.

It is not like we watch TV every day anyway.
