I noticed there was no Freeview logo on Tivo - so corrected thanks.

I would love to know if it is a software fix.

I could use HD out of component in my Sklingbox!

Have you considered HDMI to TV and digital to the receiver?

Maybe your TV/setup etc doesn't support this, but this is what I do and it works fine.  There are minimal audio delays so it works well.

Tivo is standalone in so many ways, so not it's not related to freeview restrictions.

Mine told me I wasn't registered a week ago, so I couldn't record any more.  I turned the unit off and back on again (IT.101) and it came right.  First major issue in the years we've had it.
I don't like a lot about Tivo, it's extremely old UI wise now with SD menus etc and made in Mexico, but to it's credit, it's still working and at the time was miles ahead of the no name freeview brands out initially, like Zinwell and JC Matthews etc.

thanks for your kind offer max but i've sent the unit back.

rang tivo support, who were apologetic.

i'm getting another one !

again i told them top check the unit works before dispatching...

the phone support has been great, but the logistics side is useless.

third time lucky ?

Yeah, nah. Good try ;-)

The quality of the menus are certainly SD! I don't know why it's 720p. All of ours also output at 720p displaying menus.

You could always purchase an HDFury. HDMI in, HD component out, and the reviews regarding quality are pretty strong. Even the older version II unit should handle this quite well, but from what I have read I would avoid the version I.
