I know enough to be dangerous
SATTV: One if the issues is there is no clear standard for Hi definition, if I recall composite is good for 576i at best.
You will not get 720 or 1080 out of it.
The picture will be better than component however.
Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

I think you've got yourself crossed up there. Composite will do 576i at best. Component is capable of full HD, but can't enforce copy protection like HDMI can. Therefore, many vendors and content providers won't allow HD over component because of the potential to Pirate it. Not sure what the situation is with Tivo as I've always connected mine through HDMI.
ilovemusic: thanks guys.
hooked it up via component thru my avr and it looks awful !
barely better than sd - fuzzy, poor colour, generally yuck.
will try to find the breakout plug for my tv and try direct connection.
ilovemusic: definitely component !
three video plugs - red, green, blue
not an av noob
i suspect tivo is doing something funky as i've had analogue vhs and laserdsic players hooked up to the avr and they have played as fine as those old formats can be.
no luck finding that pesky breakout plug but no probs - a replacement tivo has arrived from hybrid.
here's hoping it works and isn't doa like the last replacement !
People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Maxcat: The non HD output of Tivo is goverened by Freeview requirements. The same is true of other Freeview units with some exceptions from early on in Freeview's 'life'.
