I am guttered, we only have one but may parents have one as well, they are in their mid to late 70's and it is easy for them to use, I am not looking forward to replacing that device, hopefully there will be a hack come out to allow a network epg.

"Fortunately" my parents' Tivo died a week or two ago - they've bought a Panasonic of some description but I haven't heard any usability tales yet!

tdgeek: My wife loves it, but a modern FV recorder is the same, especially with FV Plus is a great step ahead. I hate the Tivo Ui colours. Garrish

I've never seen a FV recorder with an interface approaching anywhere near as good as my Tivo.  It's highly intuitive for the family.  The remote control design was apparently award winning.

For me, this is crappy news.  I for one would have paid a modest subscription to keep it going and get updated hardware.  (But I am completely uninterested in paying for Sky.)  I acknowledge that I am likely in the minority.

Some feedback would be nice if you have time in the next couple of weeks.  I've heard positive comments about some of the Panny recorders, but have not yet had a look.

:(

My new Panasonic TV has twin tuners and can record to a Hard Drive - but it is not even close to as good/friendly/reliable as my 7 year old TiVo...

+1 for wanting some sort of community hack to keep it running past October...

We have a Panny BWT720. The UI is plain and ok, but the going from one channel view to all channel view is a bit clumsy. The guide takes a few seconds to load as well

It does the job. Im keem on moving it to bedroom to replace wifes Tivo and get a Panny FV+ recorder

Definitely a shock - I knew this was coming one day, but the Tivo has been incredible.  Loved it.

So back to the OP - who can suggest a replacement that can live up to the Tivo?

we replaced our Tivo last year when we bought a new smart TV. Our remote had died.

We got a Panasonic DMR-HWT260.

I can tell you its not as intuitive as the Tivo. Will miss the Mobile remote function which was very handy.

key word search is crap.

If I recall there is a another thread somewhere here on that model of Panasonic.

Only look 1 week ahead in the EPG

? misses episode for no reason.

Series record means its hard to view advance episodes.

We had a good look around and couldn't find a suitable replacement.

I bought a spare remote last year 'just in case'.  It's still wrapped in its plastic.  :(

Well this could be interesting because Dad's first comment was to the effect of "hopefully it won't be as bad as that awful Tivo interface". I haven't heard any grizzles about the Panny yet, but I'll post back if I get anything (I'll probably be around there on the weekend).

I moved to a DVBLink recording setup a while back.  It runs on the NAS and records to the NAS, can series link shows and set recordings via the app on the phone. The files can be played back on multiple devices (usually we run Kodi and browse to the share), and we use the TV inbuilt tuner for live TV.  It's not a 'one box' replacement for Tivo but its as good if not better functionality wise.

I don't get why people like the panasonic freeview recorders.   I bought one before the tivo, used it for a couple of months and it has been a dust collector since.

The UI was awful.

All of the good devices on the market have an external epg feed and build the features around that.

I guess the OTA epg feed is inadequate to build features like series link and other such nice things.

Too bad the tivo cannot come up with a final update to at least use the OTA Epg data.

Yeah, you could see this coming. It was only a matter of time.

I knew something was up when nothing was done for the EPG for HGTV.

Oh well ... it was great while it lasted. Best Freeview recorder I ever had.

Anyone recommend a replacement ... Panasonic?

You lost me at 'the guide takes a few seconds to load' and 'clumsy'.

That was my experience of the panasonic and i will not put up with crappy UI's.
