I'm happy to swap the PROM chip for people, if you pay return postage to Christchurch (or just drop off/pickup).
PM me for details.
Once the disk image has been prepared (say October) I may be able to do that at the same time, but that should be easy enough for most on here.
According to https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5lxlJLWDNmWWVFmbzhoYTItYk0 The prom chip needs to be flashed with the modified binary file. So someone will also be needed to do that prior to fitting.

What I actually do is fit a socket, and put in a PROM chip already flashed with the modified code. I send back the original PROM chip too, just in case.
Just to clarify, fitting the modified PROM only allows modified software to be loaded onto the harddrive, on its own it won't keep your TiVo functioning after October.
SO has anybody in NZ done this mod yet?
Is there anyone around the Hamilton area that can do the mod. My tivo is offline now and can be modded.
I've got three (possibly four if the in-laws want theirs done) if there's someone in Tauranga who wants to help out
3 more tivo's in Hamilton area

Skolink, I am in ChCh and happy to do the mod myself but don't have ability to flash the prom. Are you able to provide a flashed prom?
Yes I can (and a socket too). You're welcome to pick it up or I can post.
Cheers.
It seems like the TiVos require a Torx screwdriver to remove the screws, yet my screws seem to resemble a "circle" now probably from using the wrong screwdriver when I last tried to open it up... Is there a way to remove the screws now?

Perhaps pliers sideways on the outside, so that the teeth bite into the screw head and you can rotate it.
I've got two prommed Tivo's here in Wellington. Works a treat for me and then I can side-load the required software onto the Tivo HDD using various tools available on the net. There is work underway to streamline it but at a high level the process will be:
- Get the physical modification PROM done so you can load your own image on the disk
- Using a USB->SATA drive adapter or plugging the drive into a desktop computer replace the Kernel with one that doesn't check the signatures of all the files "aka the initrd hack" and add any other tools (telnet/ssh) plus modifying the tivoapp binary using a patch to phone home to a new mothership rather than Tivo.
- Profit from keeping your better half happy.
Bartender - are you able to do the mods for a suitable fee or make available a modded Tivo?
I brought a smart TV about a year ago but miss my Tivo recording capabilities.
Cheers
Matt
FlanManNZ: So is a hacked tivo image available yet ? If and when it materialises, can someone in wellington do the chip replacement & load the new sw up process for me ?
No the "hacked" image isn't available yet. If you check the other long thread here (particularly near the end), you'll learn a bit more about where things are. All going well, things will be ready by the end of October. The current test version still connects to the current Tivo mothership so it's not ready yet. The PROM replacement won't affect normal operation, but does allow the modified software to run when it's ready.
Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz
