Well it arrived, lacking any sort of packaging at all, just the TiVo in a box with all the bits loose. I only hope it isn't broken inside. Even screwed up newspaper would have helped a bit.

Not quite, Telecom have been giving them away for free if you sign up for 24 months for your phone/broadband services.
Is there any info for this on the Telecom website as i can't find it?
Is it for new customers or anyone who isn't on a contract?

From what I read here, it sounds like Telecom shops are able to use them as incentives on an ad-hoc, shop by shop basis. One person said that they were told there was no deal, one person was able to get one on only a 12 month contract, and others on a 24 month. So from those accounts and that this isn't mentioned online anywhere, it sounds like the shops are able to use their own discretion as to when they give them away.
