Mack13: So, can I record to Tivo from my old SD sky STB? - cant see any A/V type inputs.

This is what the Series 1 TiVo is used for, but that is standard definition only. I use mine only for analog reception, but my sister has one paired with a Sky Pace box.
As already responded the S3 (TiVoHD) has no AV inputs, although interestingly the motherboard and case have space for them.

I have owned 3 tivos. never again got given a free one its just sittin in my bedroom

I got half price sky for 12 months I love it
BUT i will send the mysky back and just get the normal one when the deal is finished

freeview sucks theres never anything on it to watch !!!!

I hear there is a new 1gig tivo coming out??

Cant say I agree, unless you into sports and the movie channels at over $100 per month then yes there is more on. We had the basic sky package at $70 per month, switched to freeview with Tivo and have not looked back. The only drawback is probably the kids shows, but there are plenty on tv2 and four which we now just record.

The discovery/animal planet channels are so full of repeats on sky I dont see the point.

So if you getting sjy for free for a few months then yes its probably worth it. But once that deal runs out its so not worth it.

Yes there is a lot of repeats but for the 5.50 a week i pay for 12 months to me its worth it
I only have the basic package plus the my sky which is also half price

when its finished I will just keep the basic sky and send the recorder back

about the freeview i meant the new channels are crap.

Since having sky i dont watch anything on the normal tv

I have the home networking package for the tivo and half the time what you transfer is bung or the sound dont work. lol

basic sky with no PVR is worse in my opinion than freeview with Tivo. Added to that, basic sky is still a cost

Strange my tivo has given me no problems.

Its not a case of being able to afford sky or not. Its money waisted.

No problem here with a TiVo. It's worked just fine.

Well i retured 3 maybe I just got 3 duds

I have a spare one here and a home net working package, 2 remotes and a expansion drive if anyone wants it pm me its yours

No problems in over a year of Tivo use here. Note: MySky HDDs run 24/7 also, and ours has worked flawlessly for the last 2+ years. In addition, I've always run my main PCs 24/7 and never had HDD failures.

A lot of it boils down to treatment. Don't move or bump your TiVo/MySky when it's running, and particularly don't move it through 90 degrees quickly to clean underneath. Lot's of HDDs crash when people do this. The drives are designed for this type of usage and generally last a pretty long time.

Same experience here. We've thrashed our MySky Hdi for two and a half years an it hasnt missed a beat. I cant imagine tivo use inferior drives - they will have designed it to minimise returns. What brand of drive do they use inside the tivo? Is that a WD like the expander drive?

Just out of interest. Does the MySky when put in standby = true standby and only record scheduled programs and not the last 30 minutes or so??

Listening to it closeup should be able to tell if the harddrive is spinning and recording.
