I've finally bought a TiVo and sent back my MySky decoder.   Setup was a breeze - took about half an hour and I was watching stunning HD TV.

The unit has a really good user interface, and I like the 'wishlist' feature.

At $299 this is really awesome value - hopefully they will finally get some traction in the marketplace now that you can buy them at Noel Leeming and Bond & Bond.

We just need Prime to come to the party now and agree to include the listing on the EPG.

Welcome to the club...
I did the same thing as I was finding that everything we were recording/watching off myski was on freeview anyway.

So far I love the Tivo. Its great value for money at $0 per month. Cool

Also love the recomendation feature.

So far my only comlaint is the lack of Prime EPG.

I got one of those for free on Friday, after a Telecom rep came door knocking the previous weekend. It was a reward for signing up for another 12 months, which I was more than happy to do. The best part was I was seriously considering buying one that weekend before he came a knocking. When I saw the TiVo pamphlet in his hand, I nearly said "Just shut up and give me the damn paperwork!" :-)

Actually this made me realise that I am now out of contract. If they call and ask me to re-up, I am definitely going to ask for a second unit for the bedroom.

My only worry is that I hope to buy a place and move in a few months. If I signed up for another year and Telecom was unable to transfer my service to the new property for some reason, would they take it back?

The cancellation fee was $299, so even if I had to break the contact I'd only be out of pocket the current RRP for the device. IOW, for me it was a no risk situation. Not that I intend to break the contract anyway, as I'm a more than happy Telecom customer.

That was good timing.  I'm with Vodafone - I would have moved to them if they'd knocked on my door.

OK, I'm officially Jealous. I am seriously contemplating moving away from them if they don't knock on my door :-)

Tivo is great. Also you can transfer to your PC with the home networking package, to watch on an ipad and there is no copy protection on it. WOuld love to get another box if it was free. Only with telecom for calling, but would switch to them as my isp if they knocked on the door with a tivo.

However Sky are now offering the old mysky box for free to clients on the basic sky plan. I was told this by an existing sky user who just took up the offer and are loving mysky.

I enjoyed mysky, but I don't think I could go back to the basic features of the mysky PVR. I find that since having a Tivo, there is more to watch even though there are fewer channels. The automatic recordings are great.

Sky channels, on a Tivo with a 1TB Drive would be fabulous.

There is that, but it's worth it anyway and the WAF is great.

I didn't even bother setting Casper up.  I skipped that step.  I've got an Apple TV anyhow.

TBH looking at the content that is on Casper, it might as well not be there.  I think they should do away with that, and focus on selling it as an HD PVR.  That removes the whole discussion about Telecom and is probably the reason for the low sales at launch.

At $299 it is way cheaper than all the other PVR's on the market, and the UI is brilliant.

Agree with that.  I'm tempted to go and buy another as a spare..

I'm looking at TiVo as part of the mix in an upcoming Sight And Sound upgrade.

I get it is a very good PVR and you can move stuff off it to an external HD. This is all good.

I also get the feeling that Casper ought to make the a ghost disappear. This is not so good.

Is the fact you can hook it up the internet good for anything? YouTube? Anything at all....?

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Does not look like it. There are a few basic games etc.. But not worth the effort of me even typing about them.

Tivo is an excellent PVR, and u will be hard pressed to find a better product.
