The device needs broadband to update the EPG, so for a user without fixed line broadband they really wouldnt get the same value out of the device.

As above, there is no way to pay off extra bits as such, but you could just put extra dollars against your telecom account and be perpetually in credit if you so desire, but as theres no interest in any way theres not much incentive to do so.

I see that it doesn't have EPG for maori and prime. Does this mean that you can't schedule to record on these channels. It is weird that they exclude those two channels. The bill payer loves their maori TV movies and prime stuff. Could these channels be programmed to record like your old VCR using a start and end time.

You can set it to manually record at a given time and channel
The only hassle with manual recordings is that you can not name them. So for Prime/Maori they all have a name of "The bastards won't give us their epg" or something like that

There's no point paying off more than required since they're not charging you interest. Better to put the extra amount towards any other higher interest loans (mortgage, CCs, HPs, etc). Even if they have no other debt, they will do better putting into a savings account and earning interest on it.

Do you have to pay any other fees if you choose the monthly option. The only disadvantge if you don't, is that you can't switch from telecom I assume, without paying some penalty. Perosnally I would just pay the fuill amount now, and be done with it.

No, you pay a larger first installment and the rest evenly spread over 2 years, so you pay no more than the ticket price. At least that was the deal at the original price, can't see why they would change that
Well I got the TiVo, and spoke to the CSR who said if we want to we can stop paying monthly whenever we want and pay the rest of the amount of the TiVo thats left. One question about the TiVo, we've got everything else sussed out, but the volume toggle on the peanut remote doesnt seem to do anything. This doesnt seem right to me.
How do I do that? I saw the power tv button on the tivo remote but i dont want to try it until later tonight because it took like 4 minutes for tivo to turn on before
