Does anyone know which backup file contains the MAK?

I upgraded my HDD to 1TB WD Purple but along the way I did a clear and delete everything. Looks like that included the MAK. Maybe I can just restore the boot or kernel backups that I kept?

(Not that the MAK is much use at the moment as the 'transfer between Tivos' feature is currently crippled).

Do you still have the HDD with the image on it? just copy it again to the 1TB

Yes I do have the image. But I did not need the recorded files and so I just wondered if one of the smaller files contained the MAK.

Also I had issues writing the large image file last time. I believe my writing problems were a poor quality SATA-USB cable.

I have a spare 3TB and was wondering if TiVo allows it? Or is it max 2TB?

The maximum size supported by the series 3 Tivo is 2TB. If you used a 3TB drive and extended the capacity with winmfs or jmfs they may extend to the 2TB limit giving you a reported 800 hours of HD recording. Any additional space will either be disregarded or the extend process will fail. I'm not sure not having even tried this.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz
