Yeah I've been following that thread since TiVo announced their end date to make an informed decision. Obviously can't be certain everything's been sorted however do have parents and parents-in-law who both have the same unit. Neither of them have reported any issues other than a little "sluggish" which as suggested could be due to the fairly narrow range of the remote IR.

The other advantage to the T2200 is their firmware is updated semi-regularly and incrementally fixes issues whereas I'm not sure Panasonic regularly update theirs.

Yes I checked that but I haven't had any issues yet, its only early days though, only had it one day. If I have any probls I'll post them but so far so good :)

Yes I checked that but I haven't had any issues yet, its only early days though, only had it one day. If I have any probls I'll post them but so far so good :)

tardtasticx: We picked up the Panasonic one yesterday. Definitely feeling peoples feedback about the pause. Slow as hell but it’s stoll usable. Everything else is really quick and easy to use, very parent friendly hahaha. Plus you can stream from your mobile/tablet via the box (ie play recordings and watch live terrestrial tv) which is super helpful. I’ve used a dish STB without the built in HDD which seemed okay. Not as fast or intuitive but usable none the less.

I too opted for the Panasonic. Is TVNZ on demand working for you? My two units refuse to play anything.

If anyone buys the Dish TV T2200 have a look at the extra GEN3 remote controller for it.

It has a wide IR field on it and it takes away that problem Dish TV remotes have of using them like a rifle sight to point directly at the box.

I bought one today from Dish TV for $35 and its great, makes the buttons instant just like the tivo's are.

Havn't given it a shot yet, when I'm visiting the rents this weekend the job is to register them accounts for the VOD apps and test them out.
What seems to not work for you when trying them out?

If I launch from Freeview Plus it opens the TVNZ home, rather than the specific show. When I try to play a show, it plays an ad, then exits back to home without playing the show. Both devices I have do the same.

We have a Panasonic DMR- BWT760. No issue with playing content from TVNZ On Demand (accessing via green button on remote).

I have tried the tvnz app on the panasonic, but honestly I find the app on the iphone better and just cast it via chromecast. I do wonder how long the tvnz apps on the panasonic will be support for. But still nowhere near as a good as a tivo, as a lot of the content such as movies can'tbe viewed, and content disappears after a couple of weeks. So you can't record a series and binge watch it.

No, you have that wrong, it's not an app installed on the Panny like Netflix is, it's just using the access to standard Freeview Plus to bring up On Demand for TVNZ, Three and Maori Television.

Yes I understand that , but freeviewplus is essentially just an app too, although it is built in. At some stage in the future I can see it no longer being supported, as again, it is a software as a service, like the tivos online services. Also I find freeview plus is laggy and clunky using the remote to navigate, far easier just to use a mobile App and cast it to the TV IMO.

On the Dish TV box its listed in a seperate section app and loads up fast as its not going through Freeview Plus.

Freeview plus is really slow it seems everywhere.

I've had the DishTv 2200 for almost a week now and its problem free and fast with the new Gen 3 remote.

It has a very clear picture but with a bit to much color but I fixed that by turning up the brightness on the DishTv box.

I've done a few series link recordings and it was ok with that and easy to find recordings.

It interfaces with my local network good and plays all the movies ok on my NAS server good.

The live pause is good as it records automatically in the back the background for 4 hrs on the channel you are on so when you hit pause its instantly

The rewind in pause is a bit chunky and not smooth live tivo was but its up to 32x and quite usable.

Recording is in full HD as well for the same clear picture as the tuner displays.

The guides load up fast and there is an option to use their enhanced 7 day guide as well which is good.

It makes the pannys look a bit clunky actually with their live pause and a few other problems I had.

Price was good as well @ $199 from the warehouse plus $35 for the new Gen 3 remote

To summarize its problem free so far and it will be a good Tivo replacement for me.

So my Tivo remote died last night, after playing up for a couple of days. It looks like the spare I purchased in late 2016 will get some use after all!

The little Panny that I bought several weeks ago is all up and running and replaced our second Tivo... it will be promoted at the end of the month.
