How do I find out how much space is left on the disk?

The TiVo suggest feature looks cool... but talk about make me paranoid!  The record light keeps coming on and it took me a while to realise what was causing it....  ya, you can all have a good giggle at that one!

Buy the Home Networking Package, then you can connect using the free Java based program "kmttg" which allows transfers to your PC AND shows a breakdown of what's on your TiVo disk, and how much space is left. I realise this may not be great news, but AFAIK, you can't get the answer without access to the TiVo from an external source.

BTW, if your disk gets full, your TiVo will overwrite "suggested" items it's recorded, in order  to make way for items you've selected personally.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

On a series 1 TiVo there is a mod/hack you can add to show you, I assume that is probably an option for the TiVoHD also. I haven't got around to hacking ours yet though.
You can sort of judge how full it is by the warning sysmbol on shows at the bottom of the list, warning of imminent deletion.

Its a different way of managing files, but 'how much space is left' is somewhat irrelevant.

Depending on how important a series is, that you are recording. You will set it to keep until I delete or delete when space needed.

I normally have must watch favourites, and things I will record, but don't care if I miss. So those just get deleted first. Also you might have those set to records say 10 episodes, but it will manage the disk space and may only retain 4 or 5.

On top of that is the suggestions, they are always deleted first.

They are actually an easy way of seeing if you are 'full' or not. If the suggestions is empty then you have a lot of programs recorded, and they 'delete when space needed' option will be exercised.

If there are suggestions queued up then none of your regular recordings should be deleted early.

I just look at deleted programs on now playing list.

If there's 4 hours of deleted programs, i know i've got 4 hours left.

Each time i watch something i manually delete it, where it goes to the deleted folder.

Once files in deleted folders plus current recordings = full drive above works. As when first use it no hours deleted but have full drive to use.

Yes that is a good tool. Far better than the tivo software that you get with the HNP. The only problem is that you do have to enter in the IP of the tivo, as for some reason mine at least won't automatically find it, even if I have automatically find enabled.
