Attempts to play files transferred from my TiVo using HNP results in audio but no video from WMP on Win7 -16.

Can anyone tell me what codec(s) I need, as I assume this is the problem.

Check your drivers for your video card are up to date too. Had this same problem earlier this year and updating the video driver fixed it. Seems there was a bug in one of the updates earlier in the year. An Nvidia problem.

A worthy thought, especially sinced I changed the card a couple of months ago, but Windows seems convinced that my video drivers are up to date.

From what I've read it seems I may be lacking the correct format direct show mp2 codec.

I though the playback codecs were bundled in with the TiVo home software..

Yeah. Windows may be convinced but not correct. I thought mine were up to date but they were actually several versions behind. Windows didn't notice.
If you connect to the nvidia site it will offer to scan your card and provide latest updates or you can manually request latest.
May not provide a solution in your case though.

My understanding is that codecs may be bundled with the Desktop Plus software, but not the standard HNP package.

I actually asked Windows to search for newer drivers, but it responded that I am currently running the latest drivers.
I don't think the nvidia site would be much help as I have an Asus card which employs a Radeon GPU.

The Asus site didn't have any newer drivers on it either.

Sorry HNP/TiVo desktop really isn't my forte

I did however check in with the support team, and they suggest double check you have run the 'desktop plus' upgrade.
It apparently installs/enables extra codecs.

If that doesn't help, we can dig further from there.

My Dashboard reports "No Desktop Plus Key found", and my old one no longer works.

Have you tried playing the files with VLC?

Alternatively you can try kmttg as another way of getting files off your tivo for playback/archiving/transcoding...

If the files have been copied from the TiVo they are encrypted so the TiVo software will have to be installed to decrypt the files for playback..

As stated in my original posting the files were transferred from the TiVo using the Home Networking Package.
The resultant files should play in WMP.

It looks like I shall have to try kmttg.

I'd say try playing the files with VLC first - will indicate if it's a problem with directshow codecs in windows media player .

I prefer kmttg for pulling files off - more flexible transcoding options and it can just decrypt the files so you get the high quality as recorded files instead of transcoding only options that Tivo desktop gives.
