Meanwhile in New Zealand........ - http://nztech.co/1dojMMq

You know, I was thinking, would a US TiVo device accept our Freeview broadcasts?

I read about the new ones today, and it's a real pity we can't get them here. The top end model has six (yes six!) tuners, a 3TB hard drive, and a slot to take the card from your pay TV provider. Plus it's fully networkable and can stream around the house, as well as outside the house (say you are on a work trip), allow transfer of recordings to other devices, and also has a 30-second ad-skip button.

If Hybrid were rolling something like that out here, especially if it was configured so that it could take Sky cards for those with valid subscriptions, I would be buying on launch day.

It's announcements like this that make it plain how far behind the rest of the world we are on technology, and what an atrocious job Hybrid & TVNZ made of bringing Tivo to NZ.

There seems to be issues with my links tonight! And it has just started working again!

Could be bit.ly's problem or GoDaddy's...

What would you record on Freeview with six tuners?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Actually, most nights I would struggle to find enough on Freeview to record with one tuner!

On the other hand the US boxes take cablecard. If they brought out a satellite version that would take Sky cards, and had a DLNA server built in and/or could be mounted as a network share, then I would be in like the proverbial robbers dog.

To be honest we use our tivo's in combination with the computer to transfer movies to what ever TV we need it at, very rarly watch live TV mainly record everything to watch later and avoid the add breaks.

You don't think for one second that Sky would agree to anything like that??

I think you'll be waiting until the end of time itself for that to happen.

Just ask my wife. 3 tuners (TiVoHD+S1 TiVo) is currently not sufficient at times.
