hello. the last few days / week - my TV3 recordings have been quite bad with bad signal reception.

I'm thinking of buying a Freeview device - but LOVE my TIVO. it seems to be slowly ageing :(

I hate the fact that i cant buy a new Tivo unit.

------------------

Tivo problem (series 3 Tivo) :-

I'm in aucklands north shore.

- i have powered down/up,
- i have re-scanned my channels etc.

TV1, TV2, Prime, CHOICE etc all come up fine & can record. but when i record and WATCH (live) on TV3 (or TV3+1) - there are few symptoms.

- i have or may not have sound.
- The picture 'freezes' with lots of different colours at the top of the screen

Are other people having probs with TV3 ?

is there a way I can rescan / verify / proof-scan a single channel instead of scanning all channels ? to check the quality ?

Is there a chance your aerial has been shifted or damaged by the wind last week?

No trouble that I know of on any of the three TiVos here. We're in South Auckland.

The fact you're seeing the issue on channels on the same MUX indicates a signal related issue.

Check out your antenna system. If the other mux are OK it's unlikely to be a TIVO problem.

I agree however the Mediaworks mux on my TiVo has given me much grief over the years when all the other channels have been fine and the other STB was also fine on all channels.  Moving the aerial 1 meter higher seemed to have solved most of the problems..  I suspect that the TiVo tuner  may not be the best of designs..

I'm having the same issues with tivo & igloo both affected by a tv3 signal breakup over last week or so, last night was very bad until midnight. Could it be something to do with TV3 adding a new tvfour+ freq just this week or so? I'm on the north shore too.

I'm on the North Shore and I haven't seen any problems on any channels on 2 Sony TVs and 2 Panasonic recorders in two houses (and a PC tuner card).

I'm in Browns Bay without line of sight to sky tower, hopefully problem works itself out or will check if aerial position has moved.

Stupid question, but as you are using Sky Tower you do have the antenna vertically polarised? Waiatarua and Pinehill are Horizontal.

Im using Pinehill, my setup signal strength has been fine since I got tivo 2 years ago, just mentioned as I thought yours might be via skytower line of sight.. But thanks for the suggestion. I recently added an igloo box last week and have the aerial shared between the two, thought maybe it might cause a problem.

Where did your patch leads come from, what type of splitter, saddle clamp or F-type??

I'm not familiar with the TIVO menu but you should be able to do a manual scan for the TV3 mux, CH33 Waiatarua or CH32 other infill Tx. It's possible during auto tune your receiver may have locked on to a different TX site for TV3 to the other mux. This happened recently to someone else in Auckland on one of these forums where all except one mux was being received from Remuera and the other from Waiatarua producing same problem you have.
Check here for frequency vs location.

Hi.

Sorry, had a family emergency this week - havn't read this forum much recently.

I'll check out how to find / adjust the Tivo "MUX" - though, if it involves resetting the arial, i'll have to get someone to help.

TV 3 is horid. Sometimes (on a good day) its tolerable - other times I turn off tv 3 & watch something else..
