Mine is still on 11.3b4, support suggested it should be 11.3b8, but couldn't get it to upgrade...

Two of ours are on 11.3b8. Haven't checked the third unit.

11.3b8 here.

Normally it downloads when connects to tivo service, to update the guide.

After download then early hours of mourning it reboots, and new software version then shows in system info.

Ditto. 3b8 on both our devices. 

What happens when you force connect to the TiVo service?  If that isn't working you likely have a connectivity problem preventing the update (and the EPG) from downloading. 




Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

After chasing this for weeks a few months ago I posted here to make sure I wasn't the only one on the older software in case there is a wider issue - however this time it updated on the first connect - perhaps tier one support finally fixed something at their end after failing to do it despite multiple calls a few months ago... now on 11.3b8.
