Hi all, I've had a single tivo for a few years now and all has been fine. I have just bought a brand new one off trademe and set it up in the bedroom. I want to be able to stream recorded shows from the the lounge tivo to the bedroom tivo. (even better would be syncing them but don't think thats possible...right?) I think I need to have the Home Network Package software to do that..yes? Well it doesn't seem to be available for purchase anymore. Am I stuck?

1. Can 2 tivos be synced?
2. Does Multi-room streaming with two Tivo's requires the "Home Networking Package"?

Cheers

I can only give you my experience of two TiVo's, since they were introduced into NZ.

They both see other (recently [for the past several months] 100% of the time, in the past one or both could be missing [why is one of life's mysteries]). I use the Powerline boxes since WiFi (for me) was a dead-loss with the TiVo's (other Laptops are OK with wi-fi).

All I have been able to do is 'transfer' a recording from one TiVo to the other. With Powerline, it has been much quicker than wi-fi.

So ( I believe) the home networking package doesn't come into it (I do have it).
I cannot watch a program which has been recorded on one Tivo on the other Tivo (but willing to be contradicted if I am wrong) without transferring the program.

1) Tivo's cannot be synced

2) home networking package is not required for transfer between tivo's, it's only when you want to more things to/from your PC you need it.

Can both of your Tivo's connect to your home network, are they both setup under your account on the tivo web site?

Thank you alisam and gregmcc
Yes both Tivo's are connected to the home network and I have both setup under my account on tivo's website. However I have only just added the new one today.
They are both running the same software version and I have restarted my router and Tivo's. Still no go.

and this is where the problem is....it takes up to 24hrs to activate the tivo, once this happens it should work

If there's still no joy after 24hrs, restart the router then restart both TiVos.

I suspected as much but could find nothing concrete about having to wait before that function worked. So will see what happens in 24hrs time. Thanks everyone for your help. I will post a follow up tomorrow.

Well 24hrs later and no change. However I think Tivo NZ hasn't applied the changes yet as I renamed my tivo devices yesterday the same time as registering the new tivo and I assume the tivo name should display in the Tivo settings. It does not.
I will give it another 24hrs.

p.s. I have rebooted both tivo's and router.

Do I understand this correctly; Two Tivos can transfer recorded TV files between them without the owner having purchased a Media Access Key?

I have a pretty strong feeling you cannot transfer programs between Tivos unless you have the Home Networking package. I have two Tivos and were never able to do this until I bought the HNP, but this was along time ago so maybe things have changed since then?

Aw hell now I'm truly confused. Can someone please confirm whether I do or don't need HNP to watch content from one tivo on the second tivo.
It's been 48 hours and I still can't see one tivo from the other.

BTW HNP is no longer available for purchase so if I do need it I guess I'm screwed anyway.😯

Thanks, I read that days ago. Its not a NZ tivo site and it's clear as mud really. How does one enable transfers in one's account if there is no option to do so?

It's been a while, but my understanding has always been that unless you had the HNP, each TiVo was effectively a stand alone device.  I have 2, and don't have the HNP, and there is no way that one device can see or play content from the other.  As the HNP is no longer available you are out of luck.

I am pretty sure we (NZ) only have the series 1 devices, so the above link doesn't apply.
