Finally got the tivo box setup a few weeks ago. So it's essentially brand new, first time out of the box it came in.

Has anyone else had a problem with the remote failing to work properly? The Left/right up/down menu selection button doesn't work at all reliably. yell

The rest of the buttons seem ok.

Common issue - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=114&topicid=98704
Contact TiVo support on 0800 69 8486 and see if they can assist - they ended up sending me another remote

The other thing you can do is install the Tivo remote app on your phone / tablet, it is a lot more responsive than the Tivo remote.

I always found it more reliable pointed 30-45 degrees above the unit.  I think the TiVo itself is a bit bad at processing the remote signal.  I often see the orange light flash on the box but the command isn't actioned.

Is there a preferred ap for the Tivo Remote? A couple of 3rd party options came up on the NZ ap store. The US ap store has the genuine TiVo product. Any thoughts?

I must of jinxed our Tivo remote as of the past week or so more and more buttons are not working. See my comments dated in December sometime on this thread.

We are using Peel Smart Remote which appears to be a Samsung Endorsed App. Comes with Samsung devices but I believe is downloadable from the app store.

Now what surprised me was that my Note 5 is not supported as it does not have IR. Luckily I kept my Note 3.

I can report that the app works a treat. Keeps all the Tivo remote functions

@Steelbadger My phone doesn't have IR, so I use "RCX for TiVo", which seems to do the job.

I've used that as well, good, but the biggest problem I found is that it wouldn't work thru the wifi repeater at the other end of the house, but worked fine directly thru the router
