Unfortunately I can't answer your question directly but what's the reason for you needing to replace your remote?  Has your remote lost control of the TiVo unit totally?

The reason I ask and is totally coincidental, as recently as last night my remote lost all control of the unit however the TV Power/Volume controls still controlled the TV perfectly.  Oh oh I thought, hopefully it's just the batteries.  I ran a meter across them and found them to be a little under 1.5V so more to rule it out I replaced the batteries but still no joy.

After what was recording had finished I power cycled the TiVo by switching it off for a minute at the wall then on again.  After what always seems like forever while it boots, the remote worked perfectly and also seemed to be more responsive.  My guess is so long as it works fine again tonight it could have been the software getting confused given reboots are very few and far between and just needed to purge what was lingering in RAM.

If you haven't already switch the TiVo off at the wall and leave it for a short time and try again.  You might get lucky!

I've had a couple of Tivo's in the past and have found their remotes a bit flaky. I replaced them using a universal remote (Logitech Harmony). Works a treat.

A Series1 and a Series2 remote will work on a Series3 (TiVoHD). Not sure about Series4 and up. The only difference I can think of is that the S1 remote doesn't have the switch to let you use two TiVos in the same room.

I've got spare S1 remotes (slightly worn) if you want to pay for postage. PM me if interested.

The only ones I've found to be flakey are the 3rd party remotes. I've tried a Logitech universal remote, but much prefer the real thing.

Have you put fresh batteries in? If they are low it will seem to work, but be a bit unresponsive especially for subsequent presses.
