Hey is there anyone here who has a green light flasher or otherwise dead / abandoned / junk TiVo they would be happy to let go of at a low cost?

More specifically I'm after the power supply module.

I was modding a TiVo for someone when it made an obvious "crack" noise and went dark. Further inspection showed the TOP257YN switchmode chip had turned itself into two half-chips and a smoke puff.

These chips are only about NZ$6 from the States and other potentially damaged components are cheap too, but the $26 shipping charge and time to repair would make it as economical just to get a working unmodded TiVo off Trade Me for parts. But it would pain me to kill a perfectly good TiVo just to rob the power supply from it. On the other hand, I'd feel good about extracting a second life from what would otherwise be waste.

Preferably one in the Hutt, Porirua or Wellington to avoid long distance shipping charges that would otherwise mess up the economics.

Please PM me if you have something that could be useful, thanks!

Got one sitting at my house, that I saved from the tip. (friends were going to throw it out). Only thing, I'm in Auckland.

Thank you to everyone who had PMd me with offers. One of those was followed through to completion, so I now have a donor TiVo with a good power supply which will make the blown TiVo's owner very happy. No more offers are needed and thanks again to those who did PM me.
