There is an apple app called Peanut you can use, I am sure there will be an android version, there is something you have to turn on on the Tivo to get it working if you can get it to work breifly.

Thanks. Unfortunately Peanut is only for Apple. However you gave some ideas about phone apps. I tried a few (after enabling Remote Access on the Tivo) but I could not get any to work.

Will carry on looking or buying a dead Tivo on Trademe, just to get the remote!

best bet is to keep an eye out for a tivo and remote on trademe, mostly the remotes alone sell for around $27, but you can pick up a tivo and remote for as little as $5 if you are quick
