I have been running a modded TiVo for years no issues at all. Noticed the epg was blank when checked it had failed a week ago. No matter what I do it’s gets stuck on connecting says failed negotiating.

its Ethernet connected and I’ve tried switching to wireless dongle no success. I have rebooted modem (eero6+) and tivo, also swapped ip address still no joy. Get error codes that change but are N13 N17. Have got for all 3 connection option let ksp, fixed ip and let device determine ip address.

weird anybody had the same issue or no what else to try eero shows it as connected but clearly not.

Any ideas welcome.

Have you changed your ISP recently? Pretty much the only issue I've seen that looks like your one, is when someone shifts to a newish low cost ISP using CGNAT or Starlink. In these cases they haven't been whitelisted for access to the OzTivo server. Getting them added is probably not likely to happen at this late stage AFAIK.

Does the Tivo need an open port forwarded to negotiate the EPG?

Mercury employs CGNAT but will turn it off for your connection for free if you ask.

Nope, no open port forwarding required. As mentioned, the only issues we've seen has been when the IP range used by an ISP is not whitelisted by OzTivo. One client recently came unstuck when they shifted to a new ISP using a certain range of IPs for their CGNAT customers. All good when the client requested a static IP (well out of that range). However many other ISP's using CGNAT also work fine, so it's not just CGNAT that causes the issue.

The error message listed all the ports so I opened them and still no luck. Thing is it’s being working on mercury fine for a year very odd.

everything on the box was working well, still is other than no epg!

Despite being on Mercury for ages, perhaps they have moved you to a different CGNAT IP address that's not whitelisted? You'll be aware that CGNAT means you share an external IP address with many other people. ISPs I believe, do this due to the shortage of IP addresses in the IPV4 range worldwide. CGNAT is no good if you want to access your own server or surveillance cameras directly.

No good also if you use the Smart DNS service DNS4Me which many of use here use as you can't readily authenticate your account. That's why I avoid cheap ISPs as there's a very good chance they use CGNAT.

Spark, Skinny, Orcon, OneNZ and several others still offer unique dynamic or static IPs. If you can try connecting your Tivo to someone else's internet, and that works, that should prove the problem is your Mercury allocated IP. I'm assuming your modem/router hasn't been changed when this came about? Maybe Mercury can allow you a static IP for testing purposes?

I wouldn't recommend you do a full factory reset at this stage as you won't be able to complete a guided setup if the problem is external to your Tivo.

Good suggestions, I would maybe also try a wifi connection off a mobile phone Hotspot? Or your neighbours wifi 🤣🤣🤣. That might help test things.

Interesting.. I've had the same issue for probably the last year and thinking about it, probably did coincide with the household moving to Quic with a static public IP addr.

Had just assumed that the service was discontinued.

If I get a chance I'll try connecting one of them via a different provider.

Hi thanks for your comments and suggestions.

i have successfully downloaded via mobile data Yay! Looks like I’m in a cgnat range as my wan ip is in the 100.xxx range. Thanks spong must have happened a week ago but not sure how I can check what it used to be. I do use getflix for smart dns but that’s still working fine.

anyway I’ll give mercury a call and see if they will move me back, if not my contract is up in 3 weeks. Will look for a cost effective non cgnat isp.

Hey mate.

Quick question - is there any functional reason why CGNAT would make a connection fail? If it's valid TCP/UDP (or even SSL) connection etc., I can't see why it wouldn't work. However, IP address ranges moving between ISP's and even between countries, if the whitelist database isn't accurate and doesn't have Mercury's IP Addresses (CGNAT or otherwise) then it won't work of course...

Now if your network (router etc.) uses a vpn to a different country (etc.) if your connections end up being bounced around, then that could be problematic. Also, if your egress uses IPV6, maybe those addresses need to be whitelisted etc. etc. etc.

This shit used to be simpler...

As I mentioned above, the problem isn't CGNAT itself, as many people with Tivos attached to connections with CGNAT are happily updating. I believe the problem is that some ISPs using CGNAT are using IP addresses that were never whitelisted or even considered back in 2017 when the OzTivo server was commissioned. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe it maybe very difficult to have these new IP ranges added. I know that most of the people who commissioned the Oztivo server (hosted on a Virtual machine at DigitalOcean) have moved on. Thankfully our Ozzie counterparts are now paying the monthly hosting bill, after many years being paid by our original NZ guru who has moved on. I'll see if I can find out any more. What would help would be a list of IP ranges being used by problem ISPs. I know Starlink was affected and may still be.

Final update found time to call mercury they turned off cgnat, quick modem reboot and tivo is working again. Hopefully they won’t turn it back on they said they don’t normally and couldn’t explain why it switched over.
