Hi all

Have the tivo up and running ok. When I transfer divx files from the pc to the Tivo the transcoder app kicks in. Cannot Tivo read divx nativly or is it converting it to mpeg ??

I dont really want to transcode all the files beacaue it'll take ages and lose quality in to process.

TiVo doesn't play any native video format other than MPEG 2. Unfortunately you have live with time and conversion.

I would recon you can convert all your divx file to MPEG 2 format on your pc before you trasfer to tivo. This will save huge amount of time.

pyTivo is much faster than TiVo Desktop. I've had no trouble (so far) watching files while they're still transferring and the 'server' is only an old P4 1.8GHz running Windows Home Server so hardly high spec.

I've read that the US versions will natively play H264 and dont need to transcode those files. I've tried a couple of files but they have been transcoded every time. Was that disable in the NZ versions.

I also realize the same issue. As this is not a fault, Tivo does the transcoding on through Home networking Package.

* Windows Media Video (.wmv)
* QuickTime Movie (.mov)
* MPEG-4/H.264 (.mp4, .m4v, .mp4v)
* MPEG-2 (.mpg, .mpeg, .mpe, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpv2)
* DivX and Xvid (.avi, .divx)

But all of them will be transcoded to MPEG2 format.

Work around would
To save time, Using a third Freeware that can convert vidoe If you convert desired video to MPEG2, and then transfer the converted MPEG2 file from pc through Home networking package to tivo, this will transfer much quick. As Tivo won't transcode them.
