"As of 1st of July 2010 all New Zealanders will be able to access CASPA On-Demand on their TiVo media device, regardless of which ISP they are with. All TiVo owners can now download broadband pay-per-view content, including movies, TV series, music videos, concerts, broadband services and games direct to their TiVo device using CASPA On-emand.

Telecom Broadband customer will continue to have unmetered access to CASPA downloads and more unmetered ISP partners will be announced soon."

Good to see it's opened up.. somehow I doubt that TelstraClear will be a partner in unmetered CASPA traffics though.

That's very interesting, and gives somewhat of a real alternative to Sky's dominate position in the Pay TV market. However I would be worried with the bandwidth usage for an ISP that doesn't give free CASPA data, I would have thought a movie or two and some episodes of TV would chew through several GB's of data, anyone have some figures?

If only Vodafone would partner, they are one of a shrinking list of ISP's that don't offer free access of some sort to local content (Orcon has the O zone, Telecom has CASPA, SNAP has TVNZ on demand, TelstraClear has Trademe and Ziln), so it's about time they introduced something.

PaulB, any hints?

sd content on itunes is about 1.2GB a movie. hd is around double that i think.

One of my concerns about leaving Telecom [Due to them dumping the Big Time plan] was that I would not have access to on-demand content with another provider. So hopefully they [CASPA] release some partner news soon.

can you schedule downloads on the tiVo? e.g. if your ISP offers free offpeak downloads can you set Caspa to download during that time?

also, I seem to remember at luanch that the range of Ondemand stuff from CASPA was pretty poor. Has it improved much?

Though not directly Tivo related, Australian viewers are moving towards IPTV. Looks like NZer's are as well.. slowly, when we get rid of the artificial cap.

Though I would have thought that any CASPA type content would be cached locally, and not subject to international bandwidth allocation.

That's a good question. Would certainly make it a lot easier/cheaper for many households...especially those on Slingshot et al.

At the moment you can't schedule a download. Also when you do select something to watch it does not always download immediately. I have only used CASPA 3 times. The second time I did not get the movie I ordered. After a couple of days my account was credited for the charge. They need to sort this out to make it viable.

I've found that the free downloads seem to work every time but the paid downloads can be hit and miss. I've downloaded 4 movies with 2 failing to start. I got impatient after 30 mintues and re-downloaded and they started then. I was credited both times (for the extra download) after complaining about this to them.

They need to sort this as you say, otherwise people will just give up.

I have had this problem with paid downloads not starting also. The helpdesk suggested queuing something free like a music video. This gives the original download a nudge and the transfer starts.
