I realized tonight that we havn't had any usage put against our account since the day we got our TiVo. I thought about it and remembered I downloaded quite a lot of files so I didn't want to get a nasty bill. I called the help desk and asked if I would be billed still since it was their mistake. They said that its meant to be like that and will remain that way until atleast next year. Can some of you other TiVo owners call up and see if they tell you the same thing?

I'm not going to download heaps like we did on bigtime because hopefully this might prove that we can be trusted with unlimited. lol

This is a well known *issue* with Tivo and Telecom which has been discussed before on GZ. I impressed that Telecom told you it was intentional though!

There are already threads about this.
They know about it and have done since last year but we have stopped talking about here it in case too many people get TiVo just to get unmetered BB and force them to do something about it sooner.

Unmetered FS/FS, fill your boots, they have confirmed all usage is unmetered so they cannot retrospectively charge you for it and it is not for much longer.  I don't think unmetered is a trust issue, it is just financial, and to be fair they won't notice or care how good you are being when everyone else is probably thrashing it anyway.

D

edit* You might want to look at choosing a cheaper plan with a smaller cap since it is irrelevant. You can always change again when it comes off.

Took me 8 months to find out and it was only because a Telecom service agent told me when I mentioned leaving Telecom to get a bigger data cap for less elsewhere. Oh...in that case...never mind. Laughing
It's been sweet since. I do get the odd twinge of guilt when i abuse it. [I mean the broadband..you people!]

There are at least another four discussions on this... No, it's not "meant to be like that". It was onyl the TiVo traffic that was supposed to be zer rated.

fter this has been reported so many times, I am sure Telecom is fixing it any moment now.

Thats a refreshing sales tactic - bundle unlimited broadband with a PVR to boost lackluster sales :P

It would be a good sales point but it isn't something they are telling anyone about, due to it being down to a fault which has left them unable to differentiate between TiVo and general use.

It's best to avoid it because a) you probably don't want a tivo and b) you're going to be sad/angry when they fix it.

Hey it seems to be doing it again. We downgraded to the 40GB plan since the school holz was over and house would be empty most of the day, and we have no usage against the account.

Lol, downgraded to 40GB through lack of use.

Anyway, mine is still being measured; rolled over on 12th and already at 4GB used.

Nice one Telecom, after finally receiving snail mail because of the Chch earthquake, I get told my "Freevo" is over and now I have a data cap :(

I know it's not Telecom's fault, but it just adds to the list of things to deal with at the moment.

This problem is fixed for my parents - why is it still happening for new Tivo subscribers?
