Well we all know TiVo doesn't have any EPG data for Prime, but even worse it screws up what it does have.

Anyone noticed that it won't record two parter programmes properly. The latest example was last Sunday night's Theatre, Five Daughters, the second part of a two part drama.
I always select "First run only", as I don't want repeats and duplicates. TiVo treats part II as the same programme, considering it as a repeat, so it doesn't record it. Fortunately, I spotted this and selected "Record this showing too". It then appeared in my To-do list, but it still didn't record it as it was over ruled by the Season Pass "First run only" setting.

It also failed to record Harry's Law this week as apparently the wrong episode was posted in their EPG and it said it couldn't find the right one listed so it did not record the show. What's the point of having season passes if it keeps dropping episodes?

Of late, TVNZ has been late making scheduling decisions and programmes end up showing " To Be Advised" in the EPG. This week, Air Medics" series started. Despite being listed in print publications and Mheg5 EPG's, TiVo still showed it as "To Be Advised" when it aired. I checked next week's listing and it was still showing the same thing. Obviously no one bothers doing any updating.

Is it any wonder TiVos are selling at fire sale prices?

TiVo is not alone at mucking up recordings. I don't have any personal experience but have heard grumbles from people with stand-alone Freeview decoders/PVR's having issues, and I would bet there would be a fair few Sky owners with issues as well.

I noticed very quickly after getting my first TiVo that the 'series' function did not seem to pick up everything. I can't recall the programme but it was similar to your scenario where it was a 6 part mini series and the TiVo thought the last 5 were repeats, again I guess down to the EPG data.

Since then I never use the 'first run only' option. I get it to record all episodes and just delete those that I don't want, it only takes a second to hit the delete button and I would rather record too much than too little. It has not failed me since.

Maybe it is best to record too many and delete ones you don't need than miss episodes by trying to be too specific. Also use your thumbs upp button, it may get picked up by your suggestions as a back up.

I have a logitech universal remote with a function set up to delete recordings with one press of a mapped button, easy peasy.

You can just highlight the one you want and push the 'clear' button on the bottom left of the standard TiVo remote...also easy peasy :-)

The other way is to use the wishlist function.  Good for when they advertise a show as coming soon.

At least you have an EPG! The older Sky TV EPG often does not display anything at all, or sometimes just a few channels. I am always grateful when the EPG listing does show!

But Wishlist and Search functions are NBG when the programme doesn't exist in the EPG!

But I am constantly plagued with "not enough drive space" messages when I try to book season passes to new events. This is largely because I have season passes to daily events, like news, which I choose to time shift to skip ads and unwanted portions. TiVo allocates drive space for all future events in the EPG time span so limiting apparent available space.

I also record a number of current affairs progs on TVNZ and Stratos which run numerous re-runs each week.
More space would be (waste) allocated for these events and I'd be constantly bothered with having to go and make manual deletions.

I don't consider this a satisfactory work around to make up for poorly implemented firmware. That was the reason for my gripe.

Maybe, I've been spoiled by my MTV3600 which much more reliably handles series recordings from the Mheg5 broadcast EPG.
No, I don't wish to use this PVR for TVNZ recordings as I give it preference for my Prime and Maori recordings for obvious reasons.
