Hi

Does anyone know if Panasonic camera products from JB HiFi are parallel imports or if they are sourced from NZ distributor with full NZ warranty? There are no details of warranty on their online site. I was wanting to buy something today before their sale ends but I want to be sure it has a local warranty.

Regardless of source, if JB HiFi is selling a product they will provide you with the service needed in case of a fault.

if it is a parallel import then Panasonic service centre may not be the one they use ... there could be more delays in fixing or to the right level or little things that might be overlooked by a store that isn't photography specialised things like focus issues.

Either way, thanks to the CGA (assuming this is a private purchase, not business) KJB HiFi would have to put it right.

Legally speaking yes, but I find retailers put significant effort into dissuading CGA claims.

But, I'm sure JB Hifi offer a 1 yr warranty on most goods including any parallel imports (which i doubt they do).

I would expect a major retailer to tag any parallel imported goods as such. Unless it is just small stuff that is replaced rather than serviced.

The majority of people probably concede to the retailer , as it is easier.

It is more profitable for the retailer to break the law. The retailer settles pre-hearing with the few who take them to the tribunal .

That's the way it works, as I've found. I've taken a few cases to the tribunal, and never lost .

CGA is a bare minimum legal requirement. Buying a product with support from an authorised distributor gives you additional piece of mind if the retailer goes bust, becomes awkward to deal with, or if you just need firmware updates, accessories, help using the product, etc.
