Yeah I posted my camera back to the UK for a warranty fix recently and was told I couldnt send it with batteries.

Well I could but they had to drop test my packaging from 1.2m ?!!!

I went home, unpacked it all, took out the offending dangerous battery, repackaged it all up again, went back...
Not a good day.

So are you guys saying that I may experience issues if I'm buying 3rd party batteries for overseas when I ship them into NZ?
Are there any good 3rd party battery for gopro 3+ in NZ? The batteries and chargers for gopro are so expensive and a charger itself cost the same as 2 3rd party batteries such as wasabi power branded ones and they also come with chargers too

I have some batteries on order from banggood, but they haven't arrived yet....?? Hope they get here and will let you know if they do.

I haven't used any other third party batteries so can't comment on that sorry.
Yes you may have issues with shipments of batteries, we all may.

Only issue I have is 'pulsing' audio when the sealed case is used and the wifi is on.
Turns out it's a common gopro problem.

My dad used a 3rd party charger for his ipad and one day it exploded. That was the last day I'm touching a 3rd party anything. Esp if it's going to be anywhere near my face. At least if it's oem I can sue if it takes out my head

Yeah because all 3rd party chargers are made the same.

Also, the charger is integrated into the ipad, the external unit is a power supply, so there is no control of the charge process done by it. If the ipad exploded, it was the ipads fault.

China seems to have its crap together with the manufacture of new lithium cells, They BS about capacity all the time, but as far as them being full of impurities so they swell up the first time you charge them, not seen that in a long time. And that even happens to the suppliers that the likes of samsung use if you recall back to the S3 or S4 battery hassle.

But you may not be buying new. There is an entire building in shenzhen with people on the ground floor all getting batteries from old phones, peeling off the outer sticker and putting a new one on. No idea where they sell them and the guys I was with also didnt know. We were there getting some old junk cellphones to practice soldering on.

The gopro is a pretty specific size so unless the do the old spacers to pad the size trick, you should be fine that you are getting new cells, also if they are from a reasonably large supplier, they should all be fine.

Lithium cells are easy to charge. You just have to be exact with the voltage. No more than 4.2v or bad stuff happens. You can test the voltage with a multimeter, but that wont show you the ripple which is just as damaging. But again, they have many chip vendors who have their act together making quite acceptable lipo charging chipsets that have proven themselves. Old nicad and nimh cells and packs were much harder to charge, and there was the tendancy for suppliers to just get an unregulated power supply and a resistor and call it a charger. That wouldnt cause immediate problems but cell life was crap. Fast charging nicad/nimh is much harder than lithium because you have to watch for subtle changes in voltage and they are quite easy to miss making cells get cooked.

Its the AC side of the chargers I would be more worried about. That is where the UL tested ones in the US are going to be fine, whereas direct from china they may have all the corners cut. Just because its for sale in the states doesnt mean that its good tho, UL listing is optional. Its about the only certification I would trust. CE is basically BS because its a self certification, and places put the marks on anyway.

Hi, have been away and have just seen this.

I'll check them out and run a timelapse to see when they run out.

The stock battery has been really good so honestly I haven't needed to change them out yet.

Isn't wasabi power battery for 3+ and 4 gopros really popular? Ive seend good reviews for them and rubber money also stocks them so if I didnt want to get them shipped over then I can get them locally
