Has anyone bought a new camera from einfo in the last five years that they have found not to be brand new?
Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all...
I got a canon branded camera kit. It came without the lens. When I asked, they said the kit was out of stock so sent the body only and forgot to add the lens. They did send the lens overnight so I have no complaints.
It is only a feeling, but I wouldn't use them again.
I have used UDSMart via their Trademe shop for some very expensive camera gear and have found them very good.

Batman: No but I've bought a Canon branded lens that didn't nail focus.
Did they swap it without question when you took it back?

I bought a phone from Expert Infotech recently (as in months, not years ago). And my experience was horrible. Response times were incredibly slow, phone repeatedly returned due to same problem, no response when asked for detail of what was done each time. Finally it was replaced with a new one, but no "sorry about the hassle" or anything, thanks for travelling across town each time to bring the phone back to us, apologies for the delays in response and lengthy delays in resolution.
I wouldn't buy from there - anything - ever again. Just not work the money saved IF something goes wrong.
Edited to clarify the shop I was talking about so there is no confusion
Great to know! I bought my current phone from them towards the end of last year. While I've not needed to contact them since, based on feedback here I sure hope that remains the same! Certainly won't be buying from them again...
I have had some experience of buying from EI.
I have had no big problems but I have learned quite a bit about them.
My comments are:
If their website says that the item is available from them and currently in stock, that does not mean what you might think. It seems to mean that one of their suppliers has indicated that the item was available at some time in the last couple of years.
If you email about an item and are told that it is in stock with them, that does not have to be true.
Items are not guaranteed to have been locally sourced and may not be covered by the manufacturers support services in NZ.
If you have a problem and need support or warranty. be prepared to be given the run around.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I contacted Pro Gear as suggested by one poster. Pro Gear (Kevin) has been incredibly helpful and just now I have ordered and paid for the lens I want, a brand new one. They are getting it in for me. It will have a full NZ warranty etc. The price, shipped to me here in Dunedin is $32 Cheaper than the only lens I could find on Trade Me.... that was second hand. I could have possibly tried to buy it and bring it into the country myself, having to pay customs and duty etc, that would have saved me possibly about $100 or so, but I didn't want the hassle, and the fact I wouldn't easily have a NZ warranty. Oh and the difference in price between EI and Progear was $60 for the lens. More than happy to pay that extra $60 to deal with a reputable company.
Geektastic:
Ring Progear in Auckland and ask if they can get it. They'll have your back if it goes wrong.
Thank you Geektastic, I have done that and it is ordered.
