I am not sure where in the country you folks live, but here in Johnsonville I see dog owners walking dogs on leash, day or night. None of this "off leash because it's dark."

If the dog is being walked the owners know. If the dog is being let out to roam and do what it wants that's a different story.
Yes - but letting dogs roam is illegal. So it’s not a defence to let a dog roam and not know.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I didn't say it was an excuse, I commented that the owner would know if the dog took a dump when it was being walked.
Great to hear people's experiences but only @dfnt and BDFL actually commented on their hardware.
Isn't Ring owned by Google? I have an aversion there and Eufy has copped a LOT of flack on Reddit and other places.
My neighbour has Eufy but he is not geeky enough to know where his video is going and frankly, I don't think he cares.
PBTech has single Reolink cameras so I might look at them when I am in store next.
freitasm:Across the greater Manawatu region it’s very common to let your dog off the leash in certain areas. When I was a kid I’d walk ours off leash along the banks of streams. Her recall was excellent so I could call her in if there were passing dogs. She left other people alone. Our current dog is hopeless for that and is also reactive with a strong desire to play, however, so only let her off the leash when I can see for a good distance that noone is approaching

The Tapo camera installed on our garage records a parade of cats going up and down our shared driveway at night. It also correctly identifies the clips as animal/person/car and saves them on Apple secure video cloud.
It’s a bit poor that people aren’t keeping their cats inside overnight.

As much as you dont like it, there isnt a law or bylaw that says they must.
At Foxton Beach the Manawatu Estuary Bird Sanctuary is surrounded by No Dogs signs understandably but cats are a bigger problem. There are plans to live trap cats. Those with chips are easy, the problem will be what to do with the majority that travel anonymously.
^ Easy. Collar the ones caught with a note that their cat is not chipped and should it be caught again the cat will be destroyed as assumed wild.
Second capture means destruction after holding for a week.

How would they know they caught a cat before to know its on strike 2?
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!
Because it will still be wearing the noted collar

Fortunately there doesn’t need to be a law for every good idea.
