Didn't think so but somebody's is.

I am looking for a 2k camera, PoE connected, night vision that I can put under the soffitt.

I'll probably connect to it with either Frigate or MotionEye.

Has anyone any recommendations?

Not within your parameters, but... I like how some Ring cameras have a recording announcement. When a person is detected the camera announces "You are now being recorded".

That alone would probably stop it.

These work well Amazon

Get a camera anyway for entertainment purposes.

… unless the dog is roaming alone - unless the camera only detects people and not solo dogs.

If you are still considering software options, consider https://www.scrypted.app , especially if you are an iOS user (it has HomeKit Secure Video "magic").

If it is dark there's more chance that the dog will be off lead. The owner is likely to be across the road or down the street.

I managed to catch our serial pooper with a eufycam 3 4K solar cam that’s attached to a tree overlooking our berm

It was satisfying approaching them the next time I saw them

I don’t understand dog owners that don’t clean up their dogs mess, it’s disgusting

How do you come to that conclusion?

I regularly see it happening. Dogs getting a quick walk around the block before the owner goes to work. A dog can poop in about 5 seconds so the owner doesn't necessarily know. Some will cleanup later, some don't care.

Same. I'm pretty sure they say, right see you back at the car or house.

The point is they know full well that the dog is going to go dump somewhere and they are knowingly and intentionally enabling it.

When you catch them, let them know that they will be getting their dog shit back in their letterbox.

If the dog is being walked the owners know. If the dog is being let out to roam and do what it wants that's a different story.

It's the dog-walkers that put their bagged dog poop in my wheelie bin after the rubbish truck has been that really grind my gears.

But worse than them is the people that dont go before they leave the house, and use my garden as their toilet. Even No2's on one occasion.

A sheepish apology. I basically pointed at the camera and said I know you’ve been letting your dog shit on my lawn without picking it up, don’t let it happen again.
