Yep, under the menu I can up and down compensation using TTL, AA flash modes or I can change the manual power yep. 1/128 power to 1 full power.

With the previous set of images.

The first set of those 6 pictures these are my settings. On the D600 I need to set up commander mode inorder to trigger my big flash wireless. Note that the pop up flash settings greys out when I set it to - -

Do the first set of images look correctly exposed to you? I have no idea. As you can see pop up flash is set to - - and group A which is my big flash on the brolly is TTL 0.0.

Those 4 other images which looked very dark are the following settings. I am assuming the pop up flash set to TTL -3.0 darkens the rest even when the group A is set to TTL 0.0.

I never actually use wireless TTL and ratios like you are, and when I do I use two big flashes, not the pop up. I have used it and it works fine in tests.

Where in the country are you?

Are you using a big flash on the hoteshoe as the commander? I only have one big flash so I use the D600's menu to set commander.

Yes, rear curtain disabled. Yes, the flash beeps after each time and the red color ready light is on.

on the first set the first and last one is exposed ok.

the trick with flash is you don't want to see shadows in the picture (unless it's on purpose for a very creative shot usually a portrait close up).

timmay suggested you point the flash in a different direction

That's the first set image #5 (bounced wireless to the wall/ceiling). #6 ia hotshoe direct. #1 is brolly ISO 400, #2 brolly ISO 800, #3 brolly ISO 1600, #4 is brolly ISO 3200. All of the first set is when the pop up flash was set to - -

All the 2nd set of dark images was when they pop up flash was set to TTL -3.0 with the group A set to TTL 0.0.

whatever works man, don't try too many iso. 400 or 800. i'd go 400. as i said i don't have a d800 so i cannot comment on what group does to your exposure. looks like you've figured it out.

another tip - if you bounce off ceiling look out for nasty shadow under hair fringe, eyes, nose, chin, ....

I live one suburb away, Johnsonville. I'm between contracts at the moment so I'm reasonably available, but studying for something. Daytime or weekend, all we need is somewhere warm and dry.
