Just wondering what other people use and why? I am leaning towards raw.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I was using Raw+Jpeg for a while until I found out there was a jpeg file embedded in the raw file that could be easily extracted if needed so now I am just shooting raw.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I do both since space is so cheap.

I do wish that I could get a raw and a downsized jpeg instead of the jpeg being full res tho.

RAW only. I've probably taken 150,000 photos in the past 5 years, not a single image was its best right out of camera. RAW gives me the ability to improve my images easily, recover from mistakes, and process images in batches rather than individually.

JPG if I'm doing something that's not important (usually on my compact camera which doesn't support RAW anyway).

I always use RAW if there is even the slightest risk of having a "damn I wish I'd..." moment when I get home.

Raw always. So I can recover highlights and lowlights more easily with better quality, and so I can change the white balance waaaaaaaaaaaay more easily and satisfactorily.

I forgot to change the WB back to what it should be too often.

for 95% of people, 95% of the time, JPG is fine. It's faster, less storage space required, no time to process etc.

For a very few people, RAW is better.

I personally always shoot RAW but there's NO WAY everyone else has the same requirements I do.

I shoot JPEG only.

I have never taken a photo that I couldn't get the desired result from the JPEG, and had a 'Wish I had RAW' moment.

The Geek in me says do RAW+JPG for everything, I have the storage, and the ability, but yet here I am, using JPEG, and not spending anywhere near as much time in post-processing.

YMMV.

If I was doing professional shots, I would shoot RAW+JPEG for the added safety factor.

For a time I did RAW, but soon lost the enthusiasm, my camera (Pentax DSLR) seems to produce quite adequate jpegs, but if I was more serious obviously I would invest the time and effort.
