anyone subscribes to hard copy magazines these days?

I am a beginner with my first DSLR, have been learning mostly by reading books (understanding exposure ...etc)
Is there any value subscribing to photo magazines?
If so, what's your recommendation?

I like magazines, as in real paper magazines, but they are costly and to be honest nearly all the content is available on the web, usually for free. If you have an iPad etc then a lot of the magazines do online versions at much cheaper prices.

I like real paper too, I am in a job where I look at the monitor whole day so real paper looks and feels much better at the end of the day (that's why I buy real books instead of ebooks).

I subscribe to D-Photo in paper format. it is also available on Zinio in digital format, but haven't tried. For me it is a good idea to stay away from technology for a while, as my job involves technology as well.

has the digital version got more content/interactive stuff than the paper version?

There was one I saw recently that was heavily reduced for an annual subscription, via the Amazon Kindle Store, so you'd need a kindle or kindle reader app on a suitable device. Sorry, can't find the link here at work easily.

Do you have an i-device? If so, there are quite a few photo magazines on the iPhone News stand app.

HERE's a list of the magazines available in the Arts and Photography section.

You'll see, if you click on a link to a magazine, that each 'magazine' or app is free to download to the News stand but you purchase issues or subscriptions from within it.

I recommend downloading a few, as just about every title has a FREE issue to try (I think it's generally the October 2012 issue). The only thing I found it that they can take a while to download, as many issues come with inbuilt instructional videos.

Worth a look, in any case, because if you like the flavour of the mag, you can always subscribe to the physical version.

one of the best online photo mags (in the strictest sense as there is no hardware coverage but lots of great photos) is PH magazine from canada.
