I want to run multiple USB webcams off one laptop. All I want to do is take one picture on each every 15 secs or so.  I am finding it surprisingly hard!

Anyone out there know about this?

Probably need to have a DVR setup.

Google for some applications that do that.

at a quick google.

Multiple instances of this running on each webcam instance would do it.

I found the answer that works for me - a command-line program called CommandCam ..... lets me hook up as many cams as I like and take snaps. I don't want a video feed anyway ......
