This just landed here today:

The HTC Re camera (Geekzone Prices, HTC RE camera on Amazon):

Sorry for the photo, will take better ones during the day, but this thing is so cool. A lot easier to hold than a mobile phone, big shutter button, automatic transfer to smartphone, YouTube live streaming.

Just played a little bit with it, charging now and will do some photos tomorrow during the day.

Any idea what they will retail for here?

I've posted links to Geekzone Price comparison, which includes the JB HiFi official price - click it, don't be afraid.

Around the price of a good point-and-shoot camera, yes.

They are pretty fun, we picked one up a few weeks ago. Image quality comparable to, maybe marginally better, than the best smartphone cameras, a lot simpler to use, and easier to hold than most phones one-handed. Cool app to pair it with an Android (and probably iOS) device to control it if you want slow-mo, timer features etc.

Yeah sorry my mistake, hit the second link in the brackets.
Pretty similar price to some 'action cameras' but cheaper than others.

Imagine the Flip Video for our times. Easy to hold, easy to operate, automatically upload, large storage (microSD), waterproof and good quality photos/HD video.

Quite impressive so the price reflects the quality - it's not a cheap GoPro knock off out of DealExtreme.

Coz Flip Video is so old..?!

It is a truly hideous piece of design - it looks like a cheap Chinese knock off of a GI issue flashlight!

It is actually very easy to hold for long periods of time, a lot better than holding a smartphone or a bulky digital camera.

I've been using the HTC RE also and will be discussing on a future NZ Tech Podcast episode. I'm personally keen on the idea of a water resistant and robust 16-megapixel camera that is separate to my smartphone. Time will tell how well it works in practice...

After spending a couple of weeks with the RE Camera, it's a lot of fun. HTC RE camera review with photos and video here.
