Am looking for a remotely mounted outdoor security camera that is motion activated. I have come across these ones, which look ok, but look a bit dated https://youtu.be/dBqrCfQTtaM . They look like an all in one type of thing that records to a SD card. They do 720p video and 12MP photos. Although not sure how good the quality is. Also has an IR flash for upto 20m. Anyone use something similar, or could recommend something better? I really want to be able to get the detail of someones face so they can be ID'd. These are around the $350 mark which doesn't seem too bad. I can see that there are some kits for GoPro cameras, but when you add up all the bits and enclosure, it would likely be over the 1k mark, for something that could potentially get stolen.
search for wildlife camera on aliexpress and there are heaps of them. Im not aware of a review site for them like there are for the dashcams but I am sure that one must exist.
We use a Moultrie M-990i that has "black" IR flash around the farm. IR range is quite good (at 15 metres have had good shots). Overall works quite well and has got several photos that have allowed us to ID a person (or in one case a pig dog) who was where they shouldn't have been. Challenge is if you need to hide and make secure - apparently there is a high level of theft. Has a LCD for setup and review. There are many "trail cams" around - check out the reviews. The Moultrie is fairly common in NZ - shop around - I didn't pay the price in the stores. Please ask if any questions.
What sort of range? There is a whole lot of WiFi based home automation products that have been arriving to the market in the last couple months, generally manged from a smart phone or web interface. I know Belkin and Panasonic both have them and there is probably plenty of other ones to.
I'm also in the hunt for a security camera along these lines. I'm trying to find one that has battery back up and SD recording backup capabilities. The reason being that the fuse board is easily accessible, so if anyone flicked the power I would still like to record on for a time. It's hard to find a suitable camera which has: Battery backup (and tiggered is loss of mains power) SD backup Wifi connectivity Night mode Motion activation Weather proof Expand-ability I've done a lot of research on the net and while you can find cameras that tick most of the boxes it seems difficult to find something that covers all the bases. If anybody has any recommendations that would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to stick this in another forum that is semi covering this topic. Thanks
