Actually in general.

One thing I have noticed with Trademe vs Ebay in Australia is people in NZ try sell things used for more than what they cost new.

Nothing more so evident for me right now than used DSLR's

Take a simple d5200 for example. Most are wanting the price of a new D5300.

I really wish we had ebay in NZ not trademe, I hate its UX as well.

I don't look to buy cameras new from NZ hardly ever.

Second hand wise, NZ seems full of people with emotional attachment to their cameras. You quite often find people wanting top/close to new or more than new prices for a 7 year old camera.

The likes of the Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals are just too good to miss, especially if you're into non mainstream brands such as Pentax, or Sony even in NZ.
Second hand prices for those brands is pretty incredible.

I've seen competitive prices for Canikon on Facebook groups such as https://www.facebook.com/groups/nzphotographyclassifieds/
I'd suggest there for fee less sales of gear, rather than trademe.

I am looking at Nikon D3300 with VRII lens kit. Compared to US pricing, it's priced very competitively here from official sources. Parallel import websites are even cheaper than US sources.

Do whatever you want to do man.

No its been this way for ever. I think the earlier post regarding emotional attachment is bang on. I think kiwis in general do this a lot with anything involving money. Hence when this Auck bubble bursts there are going to be a lot of miserable bankrupt people, people in Auck especially seem to judge themselves by their fictional net worth. And thats why I think a lot of prices are fictional on trademe.

Good tip re Facebook. That could be another factor. The price to sell something in NZ is cray cray.

All I know is I wish people would realise once an item has been used its already dropped in value. Id expect an out of warranty semi delicate electronic device like a camera to be half its RRP once its passed warranty period not increased by 15%.

Speaking of cameras anyway, there doesnt seem to be a lot between the 5200 and 5300? Not $100 worth.

I was going for a 7000 but I like the d5200 form factor/size.

NZ Photography Classifieds is about the same prices as trademe, still relatively high. You occasionally get a bargain.

The other factor is when people bought their cameras new they paid alot more for them.
I paid $1500 for my old 600D 4 years ago, now you can buy it for $600 new.

yep i can understand people are just simply not aware what their camera is worth, but you wouldnt expect the vast majority to do a basic google before listing it right?

i like how ebay has a lot of tutorials for selling specific items. trademe cant even get basic search engine functions in their UX.

I would think that's it.

On a side note RRP on the new Sony RX100 MkIV is $1700! Which made the Mk III an easy choice.

On a side note RRP on the new Sony RX100 MkIV is $1700! Which made the Mk III an easy choice.

Although the new onet does do 4k video. They will always initially ask for a premium when these cameras are released.

i was going for an rx100 as im in the bush a lot for work and need something low light capable and portable. but the 5200 is just small enough, especially with prime lenses.

still im sure ill end up with the rx100 at some stage as a secondary, or the new panasonic 100, very similar cameras, but i think the panasonic is slightly better, so it all comes back to price again :-)

I've been looking for a D7000 on Trademe. Best thing to do is set up an email alert and wait for the right deal...
There is a vast range of prices and it seems to be a waiting game to find the right deal at the right price... Lenses and accessories sold vary alot too, so I'm after a good overall package...

If you don't want to wait for quite a few months for the right deal then perhaps the next best option is to buy new parallel import?

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

You do occasionally find a bargain for new stuff though - got a brand new A6000 twin lens kit off NL a few months ago for $1069 for example.

yeah ur right jaxson, that was on my list. but at the moment my glass budget if 5x my body budget, and i have no field work in the rain seasons.

yeah definitely going new. body prices are low compared the the end that matters the most.

luckily the d5200 will take a lot of old glass, all be it not metered like a d7200 or d90/300 etc
